Last year Nuška Drašček participated at EMA with her powerful song Flower in the Snow. This year she is back with a totally different song, “Ne zapusti me zdaj” (Don’t leave me now). As we wait for the snippet to be released in the coming days, let’s see what she had to say to us!

What has happened in your life since the last EMA?

Honestly, A LOT has happened! I was really happy with how I did at last year’s EMA, I loved our performance and I got lovely and positive feedback! I then went on to sing the lead role in Rossini’s Cenerentola at the Ljubljana Opera house and got beautiful reviews. Then in April, I won the Slovenian “Popevka” competition with an upbeat song titled “Tak dan”. There was a lot of opera work, concerts and performances, most notably, I had a concert with the symphony orchestra and the big band of RTVSLO in Cankarjev dom, and Jacques Houdek was my guest. I am currently preparing the lead role in Philip Glass’s opera “Beauty and the Beast”. Also, a CD with my favourite Edith Piaf songs will come out in March… It’s hectic, but I LOVE it!

When and why did you decide to apply for EMA again?

Honestly, I wasn’t thinking about it because I knew I would have a lot on my plate in the operatic part of my career, but then we discussed it with the team and we felt it would be great to sort of continue the collaboration we began in Popevka, plus, I loved the song, so the decision was fairly easy.

Can you tell us anything about your song?

It’s upbeat, it’s powerful and it’s a very catchy song… It’ll have people dancing to it for sure!

What is your first Eurovision memory?

Wow, cool question… We used to watch it, the whole family together… One memory that really stands out is Riva’s victory! I was so happy and I think I sang the song whenever I got the chance.

What’s your favorite Eurovision song?

The list is looooong… Waterloo, Eres tu, Ne partez pas sans moi, Gente di mare, I am the voice, Molitva, Samo ljubezen, Take me to your heaven, Zbudi se…

What is a typical day like for you?

I usually get up at 7.30, have breakfast, take my son to school, go to the Opera house, warm up, have rehearsals, go back home, cook (if I have time), pick up my son and then I’m either free for the evening, which means I can play with Luka, catch up on administration, bake something or read or just watch TV, or I have a concert or performance.

Would you be so kind to tell us something interesting about yourself, something that isn’t commonly known?

Hmmm… I looove flowers, especially roses, and I really hope to have a beautiful garden some day with lots of different kinds of roses in it, and other plants too…

Do you have any message for Eurovision fans all around the world?

Just enjoy the show and above all – enjoy the music in all it’s variety!

While we await Nuška’s 2018 entry, #YOU can watch her performance from last year’s competition below. We would like to thank Nuška for her time talking to us and wish her the best of luck in EMA 2018!
