The wait is finally over! La Zarra has just released her song “Évidemment,” with which she will represent France in Liverpool this May.
During the show “20h30 le Dimanche”, hosted by Laurent Delahousse on France 2, the French representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 revealed her Eurovision song called “Évidemment,” as previously teased.
Let’s all have a listen (or two, according to taste) to “Évidemment!”
A stylish, fresh take on a French chanson
“Évidemment” was written by La Zarra herself, in collaboration with Benny Adams. The song was co-produced by Banx and Ranx, who have produced tracks for artists such as Dua Lipa and Ellie Goulding.
An original take on traditional French sounds, the song seeks to marry every element you might expect from a French chanson with an addictive, modern dancefloor beat. Over the course of the track, La Zarra transitions from a dramatic opening reminiscent of France’s recently successful effort “Voila” (Barbara Pravi, 2021) toward a funky disco rhythm.
The showcase performance was directed by Julien Faustino, with Julien Jaunet as Director of Photography.
Now that we know the song, the only things left to know are the staging and further performance information for Liverpool. But we’ll have to wait a couple weeks for that, unless the French delegation teases some information here and there before the rehearsals.
For the record, France is part of the Big 5, which means the country doesn’t have to go through the Semi-Finals and automatically qualifies for the Grand-Final. However, French people will get to vote in the First Semi-Final (May 9) to determine which countries they want to see in the Grand-Final on May 13.
Who is La Zarra?
La Zarra, whose real name is Fatima Zahra Hafdi, is a Canadian-Moroccan singer who released the album “Traîtrise” in 2021. She’s signed with Indifference Prod and has two hit songs: “Tu t’en iras” (2021) and “Sans moi” (2022). She also collaborated with many artists in the music industry, including Slimane, a very famous French singer, on his album Chroniques d’un Cupidon on the song “Les amants de la colline” (2022).
Last month, La Zarra was announced as the French representative for the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 which will take place in Liverpool on May 9, 11 and 13. And after getting to know the title of her entry for Eurovision, we finally get to listen to the song.
The singer and her team spent long hours in the recording studio to record and add the finishing touches to “Évidemment.” The song is now ready for Liverpool, and to be performed in front of millions of music lovers from Europe and all around the world.
