Before we move on, we must take a look at what #YOU thought of the Irish entry! Here we go…

Sammy (Forum) – “This is one of my growers.”

EscTurkey (Forum) – “Oh, he’s actually cute. Could be my crush of the year if he had a more bearable song.”

ag89 (Forum) – “The song is wonderful, your hearts are ice cold!”

Romeo (Forum) – “Isn’t this the same song Ireland have sent about 12 times over the years? WAKE UP RTÉ!”

Ireland gets a similar response from our reviewers and the ‘televote’ as from our jury, and receive 52 points. We’ll see how this affects their ranking later. Next up, it’s Poland!

38. POLAND – Gromee ft. Lukas Meijer – Light Me Up

9 points

Sean – “Now this is the dance anthem that Eurovision has been craving for years! It’s the song of the summer come early and with a big performance in Lisbon I can see this becoming a hit after the contest. The live performance in the selection was a little shaky but the energy was big in Amsterdam and I have no doubts that audience participation will lift this into the final… and beyond!”

Stefan – “Poland is keep being on the good track. Qualification is non-questionable and I am hoping to see lots of fire and smoke during the performance. Not much more to say, besides this is also one of my faves.”

Christian – “What a nice surprise. I have heard this a lot and was so surprised that this came from Poland. It sounds so current and it must be a top 5 in Germany if there is any justice on earth. It has all ingredients to become a summer hit across Europe. But as it is often is with summer hits they fade when the holiday is over. But then at least the artist can enjoy a long charting life in Germany!”

Connor – “I love the studio version of this song, but Gromee and company have a lot of work to do to make the live version match it. I’m very excited that this electronic genre has made it into Eurovision, but you can’t sacrifice vocal quality for that. Also, I still prefer “Grab the Moment” in comparison.”

David – “I’ve seen all the comments myself, this song being called the “Grab The Moment 2.0” song, and yes I agree, they do sound a lot similar. However, “Grab The Moment” was on fire, it was THE song for me last year. This being a weaker version, doesn’t make it bad either, but ”Light Me Up” does lack a proper build up, and also needs a better hook. Despite that, it’s still catchy after the first few times, so at least it does light me up.”

Efe – “Every year, we see 2 or 3 songs that are both not a fan favorite and not potential winners; this year’s victim is Poland. The song is just forgettable, but I do like the song and its tempo, it really cheers me up! Good luck Poland!”

Matt – “The first word that comes to mind: Generic! And I don’t mean to be condescending as it’s not bad. It’s pleasant to listen to, makes you want to dance and is quite catchy. What I’m missing is a THAT moment! And by THAT I mean something memorable….a hook if you will. So it’s fun but not THAT remarkable.”

Zack – “There is some charm about this song. It feels current, a bit hip even, but something about it is also very repetitive and grating. Still, I think this song offers something unique this year and will be a welcome addition.”

4 points

Calvin – “A lot of this song is really difficult to get through. There’s a very sleek, anthemic quality that, while impressive and certainly requiring effort to make, feels very packaged and unoriginal. However, the instrumental break is really well-done and catchy, adding a lot of value to the song. I love the 90s house sound that comes from the bass part of it, which also adds a lot of drive in the rhythm. It saves the entry from my bottom few.”

Robert – “This reminds me a little of JOWST last year with the electronic beats at times, but it’s certainly a better overall package. I like the chorus, although the verses are somewhat of a letdown for me. It is certainly an interesting song and stands out from a lot of the others we see this year. It’s not really my thing, but I appreciate it nonetheless. It does feel a little disjointed at times – almost as if too much is happening. Overall though, it’s middling for me.”
