The first heat of Supernova will air this Sunday 5th February. 4 songs will chosen for the next round.Edgars Kreilis is one of the artists whom are selected and today they found some time to chat with us about their upcoming participation in Supernova.
Hello Edgards Kreilis
First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?
Hello! Thank you! I’m feeling great!First and foremost I am 25 years old, I’m from Latvia and I am hard working person. I don’t do only music, I also work in two jobs, day by day, just to take care of my family, especially my kids. I have two beautiful daughters named Kerya and Elisa and because of these little hearts I’m willing do anything to make them feel proud of me!
Your song that you will be presenting for Supernova is “We are Angels”. What can you tell us about the song?
Most of all it’s about us, and from my point of view, I see that we are something more than who we are now. I believe that we can be better, we can be greater, we can be anything who we want to be in this life – but sometimes we doubt it, we criticize ourselves, we sit in negative thoughts for way too long time. Sad, but it’s true. That’s why I wrote this song. I hope that every listener will understand this message – We don’t need to have wings to be an angel, but we need to feel like one to be one!
What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the national final in Latvia and Eurovision?
My biggest inspiration for this song was my daughters. As a father, there is nothing better than seeing my girl’s being happy and when I sing, they are like my biggest fans. I can’t describe that feeling in words, but one I know for sure – this feeling helps me in chasing dreams and one of them is Eurovision stage.
What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favorite entry?
Well, generally I think Eurovision is one of the biggest and greatest singer competitions I know. Why? Because, I believe it unites not only singers, but also countries from all over the world! It teaches us about other culture and song taste, plus it gives a better perspective about each country through their songs! About my favorite entry – I have many songs I actually like but I will point out here my favorite: Amir – J’ai cherché (France).
Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest, where would you dream to do a performance?
I have always dreamed of ‘’Wembley stadium’’ stage, being in front of a thousands of people. Maybe it’s because I used to live in London and it was the greatest place for the top musicians to perform.
Whom is your personal musical stars that follow a lot and why?
To be honest, I like many, because every artist has something different to love. But here is my list of musicians I find is great – James Arthur, Ed Sheeran, Mans Zelmerlow, SunSay etc.
What is your biggest success so far for you?
As I’m a new musician I released my first song ‘’Let Me Know’’ only half a year ago. With this song I was able to manage 1st place for a quite long time in one of the Latvian Radio Stations. Then I was competing in JZ Microphone song-writer competition and out of 4 prizes I got 3, including contract with Naked Music Agency. So, I carried on writing songs and now I’m here in Latvian Eurovision Finals. Fingers crossed!
What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?
Well, I play ice-hockey at least once a week, but if it’s not as surprising as I thought than let me ask you a silly question – have you ever heard about ‘’Ice on Fire’’? Anyway, it’s a sport where you have to slide down the bobsled track with skates on and I compete there every year for a chance to get in European Championship.
Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?
As I’m very busy, than Sundays are my only days when I can spend my time with family. We usually take out somewhere closer to nature, fresh air and peace. I love to spend time where I’ve never been before and I love trying out new things (sports, food etc.) because life is only one and you have to make the most of it!
