I'd say ITV would be more concerned about viewership than BBC. I'd say it's a fact actually. I just think that maybe ITV would breathe some fresh life in to the competition. Bring is some young blood. I understand many people loathe ITV but I think they would bring a more relavant entry to the competition and a younger audience.

Nah, if we had ITV, we'd have an x-factor reject NF with a song that'd make Flying The Flag look like a serious entry. They'd ruin it not improve it.

The driving force or motor behind Melodifestivalen is fairly simple, the record companies sends their contributions to SVT and makes up the selection core. The selection of songs is then broadened by a couple of other sources, but that's pretty much it. In other words, it put much of the song selection work into the hands of the record companies (my guess is half of the 32 songs). I'm not saying this is the almighty answer but perhaps a model to look into. I believe engaging the entertainment business in the selection process is mandatory for a long term viable program.

^^ Isn't it very strange with the British attitude towards Margaret Berger - I feed you my love?
You don't fancy electropop or do you think something is wrong with it? LOL also at Euphoria coming back. :D

It's a shame Only Teardrops is dropping very rapidly, I was kinda hoping for at least a top 5 placing but I'm happy with #10 even if it is only midweeks and it will probably be lower by Sunday's Official Chart.

Well, she is doing great in Germany which probably is stable. It seem to be the same pattern as Euphoria last year.

Who cares its doing pretty well in it own right. I don't understand the obsession fanboys or gays have at pushing "Euphoria" as this iconic artistic masterpiece when its NOT. It will never be "Volare," it will never be "Waterloo," it will never be "Eres Tu" and in terms of dance at Eurovision it wasn't even "Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit." Get over it its just another ESC song that happen to win period, no more memorable than "My Number One" or "Everyway That I Can" stop trying to forcefully elevate it to a higher place.

rant over

Nowhere near as successful as Euphoria!

Almost no Eurovision songs have been as successful as Euphoria, It's hardly something to be ashamed of. Only Teardrops is doing better in the UK charts than most recent winners.

Too bad she flopped :( She was in my top 3.

Although I have to say that the performance, vocally, wasn't good at all, and that fact contributed a lot to the final outcome, I believe.

I suppose the only Eurovision song what can be as successful as Euphoria is Save Your Kisses For Me.

Does anyone know what the sales figures are for Euphoria and what are the UK sales also?

Funny you only mention songs from the 50-60s as true masterpieces. :D I love them too, just find it unnecessary to put them up against today's ESC electropop like Euphoria and I feed you my love. True hits have a short life and music isn't just hits. One piece doesn't exclude the other you know and personal taste varies even on a daily basis, at least for me.

Hey does anyone know if any countries have already said whether they will withdraw this year or not? I know San Marino has confirmed, but i heard Albania is not happy with its results this year and is planning a withdrawal. Also are any countries planning on returning?

Well everyone's different I guess, but I tend to like the vast majority of songs I enjoy for much longer than that. Songs I liked in the 80s I still like now. From this year I think Russia, Estonia (ballads often have staying power) and maybe Sweden and Slovenia are most likely to have longevity for me.

How do you define a "hit"? Some of the greatest songs of all time are hardly ever played on radio unless you go to specialist stations, not sure if the majority of them could be called "hits" though. This applies to almost all Eurovision songs.

Just to clarify my reactions, Euphoria have been bashed massively and with passion on this forum. I don't understand it. Somehow it symbolise something I'm not aware of for some people. I mean I would love a friendly tease for fun, but this hate is just unpleasant. I also can't stand this idea to put two songs without any connection against each other. Completely pointless and frankly pretty sloppy and an insult to our intellect. Perhaps it is fun in some way, i don't know. Euphoria is by far the most successful song in ESC for a very long time and it will probably take years before we see something like it again. Why not acknowledge that? If it symbolise a musical development or a direction which is unwanted for some, speak out about that instead of this harassment of a great successful ESC song. This is what I meant with my comment.

So back to answer your question, my sense of a hit is a label of song limited to the time its successful in a pop chart. I'm sure there is some definition somewhere. You can also talk about for example "hits from the 70s" without meaning they are hits today IMO.
