WV 71 - Asin NF
Welcome all to the Philippines' very first NF featuring the 70s folk-rock band Asin. Here you can find six of their songs selected with care, however, due to unexpected technical difficulty during the LL, one song has been changed. Originally "Hangin" was going to include in this NF but has been replaced with "Usok".
Here are the six:
1. "Pagbabalik"
This tender little song speaks of home, especially from a Filipino living in a foreign country. A touch of a rondalla adds to the lively folkish home scene.
2. "Masdan Mo Ang Kapaligiran"
The signature song of them is in dedication to the Pasig River (which is now polluted) and carries a tender but strong message about the environment.
3. "Balita"
This song depicts the tragedies that are happening in the conflicts in Mindanao. The final chorus of the song is a mixture of Hiligaynon in the first two lines, and Cebuano in the last two lines, translated from the Tagalog chorus of the song. It was the basis for Black Eyed Peas' "The Apl Song" - trivia: one member of the Black Eyed Peas is a Filipino.
4. "Usok"
The replacement for "Hangin" due to technical difficulty during the LL. This song speaks of "smoke", which is a likelihood of vanity of life.
5. "Ikaw Kayo Tayo"
The most upbeat of the six that makes you wanna dance all the way to the 70s scene in Manila.
6. "Itanong Mo Sa Mga Bata"
The most tender of them all, speaking of children.
P.S. It reminds me of the WV69 Israeli entry "Ad Machar."
