Well tonight, Spain and Italy were voting, so I expect Portugal received a fair few points from Spain alone, and perhaps Italy. Don't forget, Portuguese is the natiional language of Brazil, and I guess Brazil was able to vote as part of Rest of the World.
Italy doesn't vote for Portugal. Like ever. It's a common misconception. Diaspora came from Switzerland, Belgium, Spain, maybe The Netherlands to a lesser extent.

In recent years, Lithuania, Iceland and Ukraine come through with some votes to our entries. Unlike Italy.

So you think Belgium might have been a jury pleaser? I have my doubts... Imo, Belgium would have flopped aswell, even with the juries.
It could be - but according to the odds, no other song had such a jury appeal relative to the televote.

Tbh it feels like Portugal made it solely thanks to diaspora. Should have really not gone through over Belgium and Slovenia IMO. Meh.
I cannot stand statements like that because they ignore that people might have other tastes to yours and people who like indie music didn't really had much to vote for in this semi. Portugal being ignored by so long is clearly the fandom not understanding how other parts of the audience votes.

I thought Slovenia pulling the wife trick with all the photos and bringing her on stage would work. It didn't move me personally but I thought viewers might connect with that. Clearly not!
It was more than awkward to be honest. Glad that calculated play with emotions was not rewarded.

And most importantly, in such a weak semi packed with loud songs and overdone stagings, people end up appreciating the more simple and honest ones too.

Btw, I watched it with my parents tonight (We are a Eurovision family :D) and they loved the new way of announcing the qualifiers? - Maybe it's a good thing for non-hardcore fans ? - So that they can focus on 3 artists only - I have experienced something what I have never experienced before: My parents actually "calling out countries/names" before - because they were excited about one of the 3 to "make it"Oo

I still think it's a bad idea for the delegations and artists alike - just look at Ukraine's reaction - after being shown several times, the lead singer couldn't continue fake-smiling and was just "overblown" by emotions which may come across as "WTF or arrogant or whatever" but I think it must be even more stressful for them... BUT - as a fan - after watching it with my family (fans of the contest but who can't match 16 songs to the right artists/countries without seeing them), it wasn't as bad as expected?

This is why I never look at odds. I don't want to be spoiled.

How do you completely avoid them? I am impressed.

I've not actively tried because I just see them everywhere
"xx set to win Eurovision"
"xx bookies favourite to win"
"xx climbs odds"
etc

Or comments on this forum etc

Even on a wider scale, if I never saw them I still don't like how they have such an influence on it.
