The audience felt so muted during Sweden somehow. I expected big cheers after the najaaa already.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2025 First Semi-Final is now over. Here are tonight's results:

My desired qualifiers: Iceland, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, plus two (and no more) of Portugal, Azerbaijan, San Marino, Albania, Cyprus.

Actual qualifiers (in order of announcement): Norway, Albania, Sweden, Iceland, Netherlands, Poland, San Marino, Estonia, Portugal, Ukraine.

OUT: Slovenia, Belgium, Azerbaijan, Croatia, Cyprus.

I’m gutted and shocked that Belgium failed to qualify; I thought their song was a strong contender to qualify tonight. Anyway, well done to the 10 countries’ artists who qualified tonight, and commiserations to the 5 countries’ artists who failed to qualify.

Portugal's qualification does not surprise me at all. The up-tempo party songs in the semi were just one massive overkill. Portugal simply stood out like a sixth toe.

I have to mention it again, the :at: part in the 2nd semi preview looked fantastic. (It was not a part that we've seen in the rehearsal clip) What else is there tu challenge it

Jury winner for sure, so could end up being the winner overall just like the previous two years. But I think that would not go over well.

Yes I was sure that either :sl: or :pt: would qualify simply because of so much uptempo in that SF. And today in the afternoon I really thought that it would be :sl: and that they might do a :lt: 2018.... But :pt: clicked more with the audience and had the diaspora boost...

We've been saying this, but people have been bitching and now everyone is just sending trashy people pleasers. Even to the extent that it benefits sleepy songs that don't get lost in the noise lmao

Abolishing jury vote in the semis is one of the biggest mistakes ever made in recent years, for sure. That decision brought back that amateurish aura that Eurovision had in the noughties.

I didn’t get “winner vibe” from them which was surprising to me though
Me neither tbh lol
I can see a scenario where the jury vote is a lot better what people expect but then Sweden disappoints again with the televote. But we'll see. Still wish JJ was in color. But the reception in the arena to the brief preview was pretty amazing.

Italy doing one of my least favourite things... pretending to play the piano for 20 secs, then walking away to start pretending to play the guitar... but with a twist - walking away to start pretending to play the harmonica
The harmonica bit was actually real a cheat of the system if you will as the instrument doesn't require its own mic.

Estonia is quite frankly the biggest garbage I have ever seen on stage. I am sorry to say it but my god, it's not even remotely funny. This is a poster child for why juries are still needed in Eurovision. I know it's a massively unpopular opinion but I stand by that.

I think if the contest was less saturated of novelty songs of all description and nature this year then they’d be a more “clear” winner. With Belgium also NQing (5th in the odds), the contest may well be wide open!
