Ahead of this weekend’s French selection for Eurovision 2021, we wanted to get to know the artists a little better, and learn what drove them to participate in the competition.

Today, Manon and Julien from 21 Juin le Duo shared some information about their song “Peux-tu me dire ?” and their upcoming performance. They are competing in the hope to represent France at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam!

Hi 21 Juin le Duo! Thank you for taking the time to talk to us. How are you preparing yourself for the big day? Can you give us some details about your performance?

We are indeed in the midst of the rehearsal phase, it’s intense and exciting at the same time: our days are summed up in long hours to rehearse as precisely as possible our steps and movements to be completely free from the technique on Saturday evening and be able to take the more fun possible! We fix these movements in our bodies so that we can sing with our hearts!

Regarding our performance, it will hopefully be astonishing: we wanted to include a setting that could immerse each person in their memories. You will see! In any case, what we can say is that each participant will have something great to offer and that the evening is going to be spectacular!

What led you to be part of the French Eurovision selection?

We’ve been thinking about it for a few years. It’s a childhood dream. There, we had this song in our cupboards, written at the time of our change of life (we moved from Paris to La Clusaz) and we found that its theme (the relationship to nature) was interesting to defend within the framework of the Eurovision, especially after this particular year. This is a universal, important topic, but we approached it in a dynamic, festive and optimistic way. We think it fits with what Eurovision conveys: solidarity, love for others and the awareness of living together.

What message do you want to share with “Peux-tu me dire?”?

A year ago, we left Paris to settle in La Clusaz, in Haute-Savoie in the mountains. This is where Manon grew up. We have reconnected fully to the nature around us. This is what we wanted to address in “Peux-tu me dire?“. We call climate change to mind in a positive and enthusiastic way.

It’s a dance song, and “up tempo”. It is made with a simple yet unifying melody that everyone can sing along with us. There are a lot of ways to talk about ecology today. Ours is the sharing, the conviviality and the return to common values. This song is about a serious topic, but with enthusiasm and the urge to step forward, sing, get up and dance. We don’t want to be moralistic but simply to share ideas, to ask questions without pretending to know the answers. In short, an optimistic awareness!

What’s your favorite Eurovision song, and your favorite French Eurovision song?

Netta impressed us with her talents: partystarter, singer, musician, showgirl. She was incredible! Duncan Laurence was also super touching with his song “Arcade”. For France, Madame Monsieur made us proud. We liked what they brought: the softness, the commitment, the kindness and the love!

Thank you very much for your time 21 Juin le Duo. We wish you the best for Eurovision France – C’est vous qui décidez!
