The first heat of Supernova will air this Sunday 5th February. 4 songs will chosen for the next round. Katerina Cirule is one of the artists whom is selected and today she found some time to chat with us about their upcoming participation in Supernova.

Hello Katerina

First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?

I am a soul that feels most comfortable with myself when being on the stage. As an artist and personality I grow completely every time on the scene. It is always tempting for a person to bask in the spotlight and enjoy the attention, but every time I try to remind myself of the main goal – a high added value is only when performing with the focus on the audience rather than on myself. My goal is to create and execute a meaningful music that the audience is fed with and complemented with and not emptied and left hungry with. My source of inspiration and most beloved music is silence.

Your song that you will be presenting for Supernova is “Blood Runs Quicker”. What can you tell us about the song?

My song “Blood Runs Quicker” is a story about an internal struggle between flesh and spirit – it is very difficult to prohibit your body and often destructive instincts, but to follow the higher sense and trusting the voice within instead, which clearly says to go in the opposite direction. I would wish everyone to have the strength not to obey the flesh that is limited and sometimes so wrong but to follow the voice within that has a divine source.

What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for Supernova and Eurovision?

The inspiration came from my relationship experience I had in the past and the song came to me  also exactly when I heard about Supernova 2017 in Latvia, so naturally – I applied in it with Blood Runs Quicker.

What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?

I think this is huge opportunity and a great platform for absolutely every musician there. To get to the big stage – it is firstly a big honour. Secondly it is always a great challenge professionaly, mentally and musically to grow. Therefor, my impression is only positive ☺

Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?

I love performing in show programs the most, I see myself as an artist that performs on a big stage with other soloists, with dancer crew, and we’re all shining in cool costums, styles and storylines within a show. So, I would say – a Cabaret format is something I would love to do.

Whom is your personal musical stars that follow a lot and why?

Beyonce is my idol as a performer. I don’t need to ssay why, right? 😉

What is your biggest success so far for you?

I think my past works does not really matter anymore, cause that is past and no longer existing. We are new every day. What matters is today. So I would say my biggest success now is to take a part in Supernova 2017 and competing for Eurovision.

What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?

I am a cat lover. I think I was a cat in previous lives. Also I have not been coloring my finger nails at all for 10 years of my life, I started again a year ago. It was time ☺ And I have no self control when it comes to sushi. I love it so much, I could eat it on my every meal.

Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?

A good question! You would find me at home eating and watching a lecture on Youtube about human psychology.
