2 weeks to go for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest. The preparations are in full swing and soon the participants will start rehearsing at the MFCC. Today, newcomer Rhiannon has spoken to us about her entry Fearless.
What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and Eurovision?
This song is deeply personal and investigates empowerment within contemporary reality. This was the first time I submitted to the local festival, and both my entries were shortlisted so that was very encouraging. It was written particularly for the contest, and speaks honestly about my experiences.
What is your impression of the Eurovision Song Contest in general? Do you watch it every year? What is your favourite entry?
I always have wached it – in Malta you can’t not! I like what a platform it is for performers across the continent, and particularly like Dami Im’s “Sound of SIilence” and Chris and Moira’s entry “More than Love”
Apart from the Eurovision Song Contest , where would you dream to do a performance?
Someday I hope to have my own tour.
Do you think performing at the Eurovision Song Contest will have a positive impact on your career?
I have no doubt that it will. This is another challenge and opportunity for me – I’m excited!
Whats the one thing that might surprise people about you?
I am very laid back in life but surprisingly organised in my career and studies. People often joke on how differently I treat them. It’s the way I cope I guess.
Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?
There’s nothing quite like an afternoon at home with family and dog or at drinks with some of my closest friends. These are my support system and I wouldn’t be participating if it weren’t for them.
What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?
Remain humble, stay honest, be true to who you are. I hope this comes across in the run-up to Eurovision and in my three minutes on stage
If your life was a song title, what would it be?
Well I’m named after the Fleetwood Mac Song so I guess it’s been a song title all my life!
What is a typical day like for you?
At the moment I’m focusing on the thesis I am producing for the bachelors degree I am reading so most of my day is spent at my local University but i also manage to fit in a lot of training, both physical and vocal.
