Re: GREECE 2012
I don't know why, but I think the voice that sings "No Parking" is not the voice of the female member of Velvet Fire! I might be wrong!
Actually, I thought it sounded a lot like her. I think the only existing performance of her is singing something acoustic, and then the song is obviously worked on, but the color sounds very similar. And for what it's worth, it's definitely not the same woman singing all the songs. Different colors and accents. I wouldn't rule out the songs being all demos though, considering they only recently picked the songs and still got two weeks to go until the final.
Some comments about the songs - while none of those songs is what I would want from Greece - I keep waiting for something that actually really represents popular music there - I have to say I had pretty low expectations so I'm quite happy with the songs. No masterpieces there, but all should be able to do well if they have strong presentation.
Baby I'm Yours is the worst for me, because sounding like a song your own country sent 11 years ago isn't really the way to go, and it's just generally not strong enough.
No Parking - the verses are not good at all, but the chorus is very good. However I have my doubts about Velvet Fire being able to sing this live properly, and also, I think it might actually be a little too pop/rock to stand out. Just another song, and there's already a bunch of pop/rock songs out there.
Killer Bee - the verses are just ok, the chorus is very good. Again, skeptical about the performance of this - I'm yet to see a proper girlband in Greece and I will be really surprised if Universal's new girlband (if this is indeed true) that nobody heard of and does their first performance on an NF in a mall will suddenly be a great girlband. Also for the most part girl groups haven't done well in ESC. That aside, I am not entirely sure if this can work on ESC stage.
Aphrodisiac - well, this is Greek by numbers, obviously, but it's pretty good for what it is - silly, summer hit type of song, very ethnic naturally. While it might be one of the least original choices here, it's probably the best choice chances-wise. Audience identifies that sort of sound with Greece and often the familiarity helps people to vote for something. People expect Greece to be summer bouzouki fun type of song, and it's very catchy. I also think Eleftheria could perform it well, i just hope Nick Marianos doesn't screw up with the choreography. Also, there's a actually very little ethnic so far and no ethnopop at all. Ethnopop ALWAYS had its audience, and if this goes it will have a lot of audience that will not have much else to give votes for, unless Armenia comes up with something similar, and even then, with a good performance there can be room for both.
And the only thing that this is has in common with la la love is that it's an uptempo sung by a female.
