That's what I've read as well - but honestly, it would be such a horrible move to not participate/let Hera fly to Malmö since she explicitly mentioned that she would like to represent Iceland this year.

If :is: still decide to not take part or send someone else instead, they shouldn't be coming back next year either, imo.
I'm not sure they should be banned, but they should definetley have to pay a fine and internally select Hera next year.

Wait I am confused with this line
"RUV will decide if this spng will represent Iceland in Malmo in the next upcoming days"

I thought they said they would leave it to the artist(s) on what they would wish to do? Have I missed something here?

I think it's just semantics? Regardless whether Hera decides she wants to go, RUV is ultimately going to relay the official confirmation to EBU on Iceland's representation for this year. I can only hope RUV is not going do anything funny behind-the-scenes.
It will be good if Hera decides to go, so we have 2 mature women in the contest (with Spain).

RÚV Is being really hypocritical this year: we will not participate if Israel Is in, we will participate even if Israel Is in the lineup, we will decide this with the selected artist, we will decide on our own... Just be clear on your position, dear RÙV: you are in or you are out!

If they step back now I will feel sorry for Hera even if her song is not "Je ne sais quoi".

RUV are investigating the claims of some Icelandic people that they couldn't vote for Bashar during the superfinal

They have said that if there was a problem that the scale of the issue wouldn't have made a difference to the result however

I am sure some nutters will say Mossad was behind this.

I had questioned a few pages back whether Bashar Murad would really win - with a small voting population, well known local names competing and the fact he was parachuted in, I wasn't convinced he'd win. I do think his song was better than Hera's, but still mediocre.

Hera Björk was among my favorites back in 2010. It is nice to see her back but she needs a revamp for a qualification.

I kinda feel for Hera. I mean, people are suggesting lots of different things why she won instead of Bashar, and I feel like she cannot enjoy her victory properly, while she seemed eager to actually go to Malmö. And now it is being discussed in consultation with her if Iceland participates, if she participates, and I sincerely hope she can cope with the pressure of all the forces she undoubtedly has to endure.

None of it is her fault, she entered Söngvakeppnin because she wanted to represent Iceland again, she won for whatever reason but still she won, and now she's stuck in limbo.

I may be one of those who wanted Bashar to win, but I agree with this.

I am curious to see the voting breakdown and how big a role the jury played in this result. I leaned toward Bashar and that is where most of my votes went yesterday. BUT I will say he was better in the semi, I expected a bit more yesterday but also a bit less.
Btw.... there was a problem with the app voting between the final two. The votes for Bashar were redirected to Hera. There is video of this and RUV has acknowledged they are looking into it. Hera was also the choice of some anti-Bashar, pro-Israeli social media groups the week leading into the final. I am NOT saying the two are connected. Just that both are facts.

I will add there was no problem with the phone voting. All mine went where they were supposed to, this is just about the app.

But RUV also say that even if they took all the app votes Hera got and gave them to Bashar she would still win.
And unfortunately I think that is true based on conversations I heard in the local pool this morning. General consensus in the hot tub was that they wished it was Sigga Ósk or Aníta instead of Hera but they were dumping all their votes on Hera because they were very opposed to Iceland making a political statement in an ongoing war in this manner.

As vocal as some people here were about sending Bashar to make a statement there were others as strong in their opinion it wasn't going to happen on their watch.

But Iceland isn't a monolith and everyone has their reasons for why they voted as they did. I put all my on Bashar. My husband was very much in the above group that wasn't having any part of this circus and voted for Hera. We are still currently married, as log as we don't discuss it. But what often happens in these situations is you have a final with a lot of interchangeable generic garbage and one out of the box entry. And the out of the box entry breezes through to the final two only to be thwarted by the fans of generic garbage songs 1 and 2 putting their votes on generic song 3 that made it to the final two. And so we send that "winning" act out and in the weeks leading into Eurovision will convince ourselves we will make it out of the semi's only to have the rug pulled out from under us. It's becoming a story as old as the Sagas

"Je Ne Sais Quoi" holds a huge place in my heart. One of the most triumphant, perfect entries in Eurovision history, and a HUGE part of that is Hera herself, one of the most likable stage presences in or out of Eurovision.

How can I stay mad at her for giving us a radio-background-noise slice of dreck?

Interesting RUV is so quick to confirm this. Really interested to see the details of the voting results.

I guess that's where the silent majority is thinking. You can have the loud voices for pushing Bashar's win but in the end, the silent majority quietly votes on what they truly want from an Icelandic representative.
