Terrible song quality overall, but Emma's song is the utter standout. So obviously Finland won't pick it, because year after year they make the wrong choice. The fact that there are so many joke acts makes my head hurt. Norma and Lauri both have good songs too.

My favourites are probably "My Little World", "Blackbird", "Paradise" and "Circle of Light". Emma's song definetly seems like the stand-out song though, I can see it doing well. I do like it a lot, I love the pre-chorus.

Re: FINLAND 2017

I don't know what people see on Emma, her song is so average and forgettable, uninspuring and boring.

I can only find one song that would make me cheer on if it goes to Ukraine, and that's Norma John's "Blackbird", with a good staging it has potential to slay.

If we are going to pick another song (and most probably be eliminated in semis) I would only stand "Caveman" ... yeah, if we are going to flop let's do it properly and end up last trolling the whole stuff.

It's indeed the worst line up in the short history of UMK, I thought nothing could beat 2012 but here we are.

Norma John's "Blackbird" for the win please, such a haunting song. But I fear it's going face the same fate as Sunday (Iceland 2015) and Mick Pedaja (Estonia 2016)...

I love:

1. Emma
2. Club la Perse

Everything else would be disappointing!

Re: FINLAND 2017

Why does everybody complain about the quality of the songs if the :fi: are just going to choose a song at random like they do every year?
I agree that the overall quality of songs is lower then last year, but there are still plenty of songs that are better then Sandhja.
I was totally shocked last year when she won, not because i hated the song, by mainly because I could not find 1 reason why this would win between the selection of that year.

For this year I would prefer:
1. Norma John - Blackbird 8/10: the only song that gives me chills. With a strong live performance and staging this could do really well in Eurovision
2. My First Band - Paradise 7,5/10: this is totally my jam and taste in music and it's catchy as hell! Only problem are the lyrics....oh dear
3. Alva - Arrows 7,5/10: Also catchy as hell, I could say it's a bit bland, but the song has soo much potential!

4. Emma - Circle of Light 7/10: the big favorite as far as I see it, however, I think the song is pretty generic.
5. Anni Saiku - Reach Out for the Sun 6,5/10: Totally forgettable, only memorable part of the song is the background tune.
6. Lauri Yrjöla - Helppo elämä 6,5/10: Decent beat and in Finnish. I should like this more, but the song is to monotone and doesn't seem to grab any attention.
7. Club la Perse - My Little World 5,5/10: Totally crazy, but it seems to be growing as some sort of guilty pleasure. The verse however is soo badly sung and amateuristic I can't put this any higher.

8. Günther & D'Sanz - Love Yourself 5/10: A song about masturbation.....great and i thought the lyrics of "Paradise" were bad. How does one make a song that is creepy and catchy at the same time? I don't like it however and bringing in Günther doesn't help, the whole point of a one hit wonder is that he shouldn't make another song.....
9. Zühlke - Perfect Villian 4,5/10: It's like this song is tailor made to annoy specifically me. Overdramatic diva-ballad with terrible superhero metaphors. I don't even like comics and I feel offended by all the errors.
10. Knuclebone Oscar & The Shangrila Rubies 3,5/10: If you're going to make a troll song, at least make it funny. If you can't manage that, then just don't enter.

Re: FINLAND 2017

Why generic songs cannot be good? Like :se: 2015 one

In my opinion generic songs can never be good since they don't bring anything new to the table or can stand out.
I would never punish a song for just being generic if there is some quality to be found, but it won't win any prizes with me either.
However generic is different for everybody, I think plenty of people didn't see "Heroes" as a generic song (even though i think they were too distracted by the stage-effects to notice how generic the song was).

I, however was extremely disappointed by :se: winning in 2015, but I've been disappointed about the winners for three years now. :p
The reason why is because it was the same watered down EDM/pop I've heard a 1000 times before.
It's background music to me, it shows a lack of effort and creativity.

But I fear it's going face the same fate as Sunday (Iceland 2015)

Well this forum know HOW MUCH I LOVE Sunday but this is nowhere similar to Feathers.

So after a lil' more listening to this UMK :

1. Alva - Arrows
What a chorus damn, love that song, so scream queens
2. Club La Persé - My Little World
love it
3. Lauri Yrjölä - Helppo Elämä
maybe the finnish vibe do it for much but the lounge part won't do well at ESC

My First Band is fine for the song itself but won't do well in ESC if chosen, Emma can smash it with with a proper staging (grower for me, hated it at first listening now it's good) and honorable mention for Günther and D'Sanz, this song is deliciously insane.

Re: FINLAND 2017

I'm actually quite positively surprised by the line-up. There are at least 4 songs that I would like to see and hear on the big stage in May:
Norma John - "Blackbrid"
Emma - "Circle of Light"
Alva - "Arrows"
Anni Saikku - "Reach out for the Sun"
