Re: FINLAND 2017

Krista listened the songs:

A brief translation (not mine, I'm just copypasting it here)
Song 1: Oh, wonderful voice.... I like pop chicks. Modern, fresh, beautiful pop-r'n'b
Song 2: What?! In English and in Finnish?! Oh wow! This is like... pop folk (she's really excited!)
Song 3:Whoa, this started right away, BANG! OMG IS THIS WHO I THINK IT IS??? Help... I need to pause now. This so WTF moment!
Song 4: This sounds so good, such a great groove hey! Gals getting crazy on the dance floor. Ear worm! Ear worm!
Song 5: Now it's sensitive... is this a bit sad? I'm not sure (she's really low key and silent) I think this song could stand out from the rest a lot. This is so different from what I've just heard...
Song 6: (She's dancing) Disco! Ha ha! Gay glam! I like this, ha ha ha!
Song 7: Ok, in Finnish so I don't understand anything I'm fucked. ... ha ha not really.... (silence) Wow! I didn't expect this! This is one of my favorites!
Song 8: A little ROCK! Good vibes! Funny lyrics! Yeah!
Song 9: Beautiful ballad.... what's happening now..... when you are driving a car and this song comes on the radio, it would be wonderful....
Song 10: Real good attitude! Like Mmrrrh! Now we're talking. This got balls, POWER, yep!

Re: FINLAND 2017

Good news: The winner will be decided by televoting and an international jury (no more children or taxi drivers jury... unless they meant international children and drivers, damn YLE)

Bad news: The organisation seem to be as cheap an amateur as previous years.

About the songs quality, I don't have high expectations but it's better to listen to them all.

Re: FINLAND 2017

My ratings:
Lauri Yrjölä – Helppo elämä (a child of "Heroes" and "Ghosttown", OMG I love it!) 8,5/10
Emma - Circle of Life (this sounds like a bland version of "Hear Them Calling" xshrug ) 6/10
My First Band – Paradise (pretty much annoying) 5/10
Norma John – Blackbird (heard it, and didn't remember it) 4,5/10
Alva - Arrows (this song is perfect for a teenage TV series like "The Vampire Diaries" or similar crap) 4/10
Zühlke – Perfect Villain (honey, it ain't the 1990s anymore) 3/10
Anni Saikku - Reach Out For The Sun (left no impact) 2/10
Knucklebone Oscar & The Shangri-La Rubies – Caveman (no comment, please) 1/10
Club La Perse - My Little World (people who choose this song for UMK should be banned from music industry) 0/10
Gunther and D'Sanz - Love Yourself (is this a masturbation anthem? WTF?)

FINAL WORD - I only liked one song (!!!) and probably it won't win. Maybe the live performances will change my mind, but for now. xshrug

Re: FINLAND 2017

None of the songs really convinced me after the first listening. I think Emma, Alva and Anni will find a solid base among eurovision-fans.
I could live with Anni as the finnish entry, I wouldn't mind Zühlke either, Lauri gets my "other-than-english"-bonus, the rest is rather boring or even annoying.

I'm also gonna wait for the live performances..

Re: FINLAND 2017

The only song I could live with is "Circle of Light" - but its also just meh, nothing special.... All in all a VERY weak UMK year in my opinion...

Luckily, we will have international juries in UMK.

Re: FINLAND 2017

UMK xheart Krista xheart3 Eurovision season xheart33

Emma - Circle of Light: Very open to a solid staging and performance, but it kinda feels like it took pointers from Love Love Peace Peace a little too much. Seeing the reactions around the traps it'll probably win, and get lost in the middle ground mix of bland pop, with or without the instrumental. 5.5/10

Lauri Yrjölä - Helppo elämä: *cough* YAASSSSSS. YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS. Third song of euroseason 2017 and I have a fave. That beat makes me excited in all the right places. Plus I gosh darn love the Finnish language in song. Peters out a bit at the end, which is a bit of a disappointing after what felt like a really strong first 2 and a half minutes. 9/10

Club La Persé - My Little World: They'd be great to have at a party, but not as the band. 2.5/10

My First Band - Paradise: There are so many things about this that I normally don't like, and two bars in to this I thought 'yeah, nah... nah'. But it kept on growing on me, and all the things that normally bug me in pop actually work well here, except maybe again the (overly repetitive) last 30 seconds or so. This is the kind of song that will really, really depend on the performer's ability to hit the right tone on stage - it does in the recording. 7.5/10

Knucklebone Oscar & The Shangri-La Rubies - Caveman: I love a good joke entry. And I love a bit of retro. But... this doesn't work. Switch it to French and go all out on the bizarre and it might? Probably not but French is tres hot right maintenant 2/10.

Anna Saikku - Reach Out For The Sun: There are so many things about this that I normally don't like, and two bars in to this I thought 'yeah, nah... nah'. And it stayed nah. She's a good singer, but the lyrics are super terrible and everything is just plain old dull. 2.5/10

Alva - Arrows: See above. 2.5/10

Norma John - Blackbird: Sometimes sparse ballards are amazing (see Anett Kulbin - Strong last year from Estonia), and sometimes they're just not really all that good. Vocally impressive but the song just doesn't gel with me. Still, giving it a bonus point for not just being another plastic pop song even if it isn't really pushing any boundaries either. 6/10

Günter & D’Sanz - Love Yourself: My enthusiasm has waned too much to properly formulate my thoughts on this, suffice to say it's not what I wanted it to be, and it's not what it wanted itself to be either. 3/10

Zühlke - Perfect Villain: I actually like this, yay! Again with the too much repetition but the idea of the song, both in terms of composition and lyrics, is fun. 7/10

UMK :( what went wrong? Last year you had 6 or 7 great songs, this year it feels very Norwegian MGP 2016. Not a good thing. Probably slightly better than that but still, I was so excited and then... oh well. Don't pull a Laika robbery at least. Please please please send Lauri (and fix the last 30 seconds).
