Tonight the first Semi-Final of the Festival da Canção in Portugal. Deolinda Kinzimba is one of the participant’s for tonight’s competition and we have found time to talk to her.
Hello Deolinda
First of all thank you for your time talking to us. How are you ? Can you introduce yourselves ? What can you tell us about yourself?
I am a young lady from Luanda,Angola who loves singing. I moved to Portugal in 2014 to continue my studies. In 2016 I won the third edition of the voice Portugal and signed a contract with universal music Portugal, releasing my first single “primeira vez” a few months later. I decided that I wanted to be a singer when I was a little girl, since then my main goal is to bring some peace and love through my songs, and I feel that I’m in a good way.
Your song that you will be presenting for the Festival da Cancao is “O que eu vi nos meus sonhos”. What can you tell us about the song?
My song was written by Senhor Vulcão and composed by Rita Redshoes. It’s a very lovely song that talks about love and dreams. Carries a big message that can make people believe that is always possible to make our dreams come true.
Do you plan to release an English Version of this song? If you win, will you sing this song in English?
Well, I’m going to sing it in Portuguese even if I win. We don’t have an English version of the song. I really believe that some songs don’t need to be translated, because they are unique and can make the difference being the way they are.
What was the inspiration for the song, and did you write it specifically for Festival da Cancao and Eurovision?
It was written by Senhor Vulcão and composed by Rita Redshoes specifically for both festival da canção and Eurovision.
Whom is your personal musical stars that follow a lot and why?
I’m going to highlight names such as Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, because I’ve grown listening to their songs. I often say that they were my “teachers” when I found my passion for music.
What is your biggest success so far for you?
My biggest success so far is having the great opportunity to share with people the amazing gift that God has given to me, (my voice). I feel happy whenever I have to perform, because I can use my voice to spread love and happiness. look at crowd and see smiling faces when I finish the song, well this my biggest success.
What’s the one thing that might surprise people about you?
I guess that it’s the way that I’m going to give myself to every note of the song that may surprise people.
Where do we find you on a Sunday Afternoon?
You can find me at home relaxing and watching a good movie.
What is the best bit of advice you have ever been given?
Sometimes having a public life is very difficult. Last year I was facing a bad moment in my life and one of my best friends told that “I just needed to be myself no matter what people will think, love yourself girl”.
If your life was a song title, what would it be?
It would be “The Strength of a woman”
What is a typical day like for you?
A sunny day, full of good vibes and birds singing
