Why don't you tell us something about Birmingham? It's more interesting to find out things about a place from someone who lives there than seeking information on the internet.

There are a few interesting things I could tell you about Birmingham, actually.

Birmingham has a long industrial history (which led to nicknames like "Workshop of the World" and "City of a Thousand Trades") but most of the factories have closed down now and been converted into trendy apartments for young professionals. Oh, and the Bullring- one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe!

But it isnt all apartments, shopping malls etc. In fact, Birmingham has more parkland and open spaces than any other city in Britain- which I think brighten the place up a bit.

What I personally love about Birmingham, though, is its music scene. My favourite band of all time- Duran Duran- are from Birmingham. Birmingham is also the birthplace of heavy metal- Judas Priest, Black Sabbath and Magnum are all from around here.

This place was featured in a clip by a Bulgarian singer - Kameliya, though it's sort of a duet between her and a Greek male singer - Sakis Kukos.

You can watch the music video here: [youtube:3ruqahut]TzmGbCDXOFQ[/youtube:3ruqahut]
I don't think I saw it when I visited Thessaloniki, though. :(

The umbrella design is very nice, I haven't seen anything like it before. It looks even cooler in the video posted by 94ayd! :p Let's visit Saloniki!

btw I'm wondering how it looks like when it's actually raining.

I guess you should visit and find out! I couldn't find a raining pic though so here's a sunset one:

@ 94ayd

I am sorry you couldn't find the umbrellas. They are about 15-20 minutes walking by the seaside from the White Tower to the south. This is the place I make the longest stops. In the summer evenings there's usually a guy that plays the clarinet a la Woody Allen so it's really hard for me not to stop at least for an hour. It's really a very enchanting place.

My hometown is Drama. It's about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Thessaloniki. :) Our population is about 45.000 to 50.000 people.
Drama has excellent water resources and may well owe its name to Hydrama (Hydro, Greek: having to do with water) a town which it is believed stood on the same site in ancient times. In the Roman era, Drama was known as Dravescus (?????????), and was a trade center and military camp on the Roman Via Egnatia. Since the Middle Ages it has been known as ????? in Greek and ????? in Bulgarian.
In 1912 during the First Balkan War, Drama was taken from the Ottomans by Bulgarian troops; Subsequently, in 1913 as a result of the Treaty of Bucharest, following the Second Balkan War, it was incorporated into Greece along with the rest of eastern Macedonia and Western Thrace. Drama was occupied by Bulgarian troops from 1941 to 1944 during World War II.

^Just a small copy-paste from wikipedia^ :p

Some photos of the waters of Agia Varvara (Santa Barbara). This is the most beautiful place in Drama. It's in the center of Drama and it's perfect for the summer coz it's pretty cool there because of the waters. In fact Agia Varvara has been voted as one of the 50 most beautiful parks in the world!

Drama also has one of the biggest ski centers in Greece. Here are some photos of Falakro mountain. Falakro means bald and it's got its name because there are almost no trees on top of the mountain and that makes it perfect for skiing, snowboarding etc. :) Falakro is about 45 minutes away from Drama.

It's cute. :D

PS Well, if it was just me and my parents, we would've probably checked out every monument but it was a chaotic trip with the class and we had very limited time since we were only passing by.

I'll show you some photos from Berlin. It's not my home town but I moved to Berlin for studies.

Berlin is the German capital and located in the Northeast of Germany. The city was first documented in the 13th century and has had the status of a capital (of several kingdoms, empires and republics) from 1701 until nowadays. Currently Berlin has a population of 3,431,700 among them 470,051 residents of foreign nationality, originating from 195 different countries.

The probably most famous landmark is the Brandenburg Gate. It's a former city gate (actually the only remaining one) and became the main venue for the 20th anniversary celebrations of the fall of the Berlin Wall or "Festival of Freedom" on the evening of 9 November 2009.

Another famous sight is the Fernsehturm (also called "Telespargel" by many inhabitants - actually the inhabitants love to create nicknames for their sights) which is the highest building in Germany. The tower contains a visitor platform and a rotating restaurant in the middle of the sphere. The visitor platform is at a height of about 204 m (669 ft) above the ground and visibility can reach 42 km (26 miles) on a clear day. The restaurant, which rotates once every 30 minutes, is a few metres above the visitors platform.

But Berlin not only consists of buildings, in fact Berlin is said to be a rather green city. The biggest park is the so called Tiergarten in the middle of Berlin with 210 hectares. In summer many inhabitants use the Tiergarten for recreation so you can see a lot of people sunbathing, playing games and even having a barbecue.

I guess stuying in Berlin would be a great experience. Lucky you Anjeza! :)
