Well, I can't find the 2024 general discussion thread yet. I'm providing a thread to house it before mods will make one.

You may discuss anything related to the 2024 contest in general.

EDIT: Welp, I guess it has manifested into one.xshrug Let's go guys!

2021 the 4 Frontrunner :is::lt::it::ru: would have had 250+ Televotes and who ever would have came 5th, would have had 150 Televotes at best. It would have been another very one-sided Year.

New theory about the big change to come (this one is from me) :

The running order of the semi-finals will not be decided soon, but after the rehearsals in Malmö, maybe the friday or sunday of the week before the Eurovision week. The goal being to have a look of the performances before doing the Running order.

Maybe after the first rehearsal? I'm thinking about the event organization because you still need a schedule to base running your events on including the rehearsal.

I'm thinking whether there's gonna be an additional prize for the winner instead of only the crystal mic.

Nah I think :is: :ch: :ru: were the clear frontrunners in 2020
Russia would have done well with the televote, but the juries would have tanked it big time. I would have also made a case for Italy as a potential 2020 winner, both "Fai Rumore" and "Répondez-moi" would have cleaned up in the jury vote and it would have all come down to the televote

Ah. My theory is just that they're going to change the exec. supervisor.

Now that all the entries are out, I hope the stagings come through, because more than half the songs are just meh.
For me at this point in the season, it's the weakest year since 2017 (a year where very few songs resonated with me).

I'm still giving it time though. My views could change after seeing the performances.

Fully agree. This is a seriously weak year.

I can only name 5 songs I *genuinely* like, while there are more I actively dislike (and in some of those cases despise!). The rest are just meh.

It’s a major comedown on last year for me and in general the last few years where I feel Eurovision has been at its strongest in a very long time.

Hey all! Popping this link in the general thread so it doesn't come across as too spammy (because I promise it's not meant to be).

In past years many of you have voted in the escgo! SongHunt poll to find the most robbed national finalist of the season. The 2024 grand final is now underway, so if you'd like to click and support your faves, we'd love to have votes from as far and wide as possible. Thanks! :)

Hey, guys, I made a small statistic with our ESCUnited poll feature to try figuring out what songs we prefer as a forum.

The technique that I use:
  1. Multiply the scores of the poll with the number of votes, creating a total score.
  2. Sum the total number of votes, and sum the total score as well.
  3. Since the number of votes for each poll wouldn't be equal, I proportion the total score with the poll with the biggest number of votes.
(Biggest number of votes/the number of votes in the country poll)*total score = proportioned score
  4. Rank the proportioned score to create a top 10 and bottom 10
The result:

I'm thinking the running orders will be revealed sometime next week, stage assembly would start the week after along with the tech/stand-in rehearsals and the finalization of the rehearsal schedule. Rehearsals in Malmo for the acts would begin around April 28 and conclude on May 4

So, after several months have passed, what do you guys think about the stage design?

Personally, it's okay. I like that it's open and versatile: this could give the acts a lot of room to explore, and the cubes have at least three lighting choices and heights to play with. And maybe, this is also the first time we have an actual stage in the middle of the audience.

The downside, however, is the way this is very Swedish-coded. When you give so much choices to the acts, delegations could overstage or understage it. I'm expecting a lot of acts to get aided with the staging even when their song is lacking, too.

The official Eurovision account posted that the official album can be streamed and downloaded now but if go to iTunes, you can only pre-order it. It will be released on 12th April, 2024.

(the link to the "official playlist" does work, though). A pity they didn't announce it correctly.

So there's no official news on a running draw order? Cos I had a little Facebook memory today and it's a year to the day that the ESC 2023 running order was revealed...
