Re: RUSSIA 2019

:ru: will be back on tracks this year though, I'm deeply conviced that they will try even harder now to win the whole thing than ever before.

I hoped so too until the dream team was said to be involved. Let's see if they up their game this time around.

Re: RUSSIA 2019

Rumor has it that Aleksandr Panayotov is the artist Kirkorov would like to see in Tel Aviv..that he behind this project.

That's a very risky, unusual and provocative choice somehow since the singer is from Ukraine.
Maybe that's why Kirkorov just made that comment that he "has a singer in mind but if the Russian channel doesn't approve it, he will be trying to be involved in a project of a friendly country or just attend Eurovision as an ordinary fan".

It really seems that he has an artist ready but isn't sure if the Russian channel would back it up.

Not wanting to dance anymore, but I must dance
Re: RUSSIA 2019

A similar argument could be made about Sergey, with the broadcaster hesitating on approval since the only person to go to Eurovision twice won the second time, so they basically want Kirkorov to guarantee that Sergey won't come up short again (or worse, flop in the semis)

Russia has such an amazing and active and big music scene... .
Your opinion is very far from true.
I live in Russia and don't know even one good current singer or group.

The biggest irony though is that some of the most successful names on the Russian music scene today (as far as mainstream music goes) are coming from Ukraine; Loboda, Ani Lorak, Maks Barskih and Yolka for example ... I wouldn't say that they are completely dominating the scene... but they are really among the top performers for sure.

I would say it's the opposite of your concern though, it's all about propaganda in the end of the day really. Those artists for example that I just mentioned are used as part of Russia's "soft power" propaganda machinery as well, shown off as they "left Ukraine to go to their motherland" and that "Russia and Ukraine are one" and that "In Russia you can be successful" or stuff like that. The Russian broadcaster would probably spin it the same way if they'd pick a Ukrainian act, showing that a Ukrainian artist would choose Russia over his homeland, and in times of Russian aggression and war against Ukraine, it would look even more so with the right spin from the broadcaster. Kirkorov is a true Putin ally, wouldn't be surprised if they'd even make the guy speak in favor of Russia and "re-unification" and how awful and "fascist" Ukraine has become but that in reality they are "brotherly people" (= Ukraine back to being under Kremlin's control). I mean we are talking about a country that sends "peace" songs (while attacking neighbor countries), a semi-closeted gay singer (while having an "anti-gay propaganda" law) and a singer in a wheelchair (those darn Ukrainians treated her so badly, all she wanted to sing, look she is in a wheelchair, how could they!!!!) as part of their twisted propaganda after all.

Re: RUSSIA 2019

My statement on Russia's music scene isn't "far from being true" - Whether you in particular like Russian music or not depends on your own personal taste. It's simply subjective and of course, you are entitled to have a different opinion. There's nothing wrong about that.
However, - instead of countries such as San Marino or Azerbaijan for example, Russia has a very active, big, healthy music scene with tons of artists (which are good in my opinion) creating "authentic" Russian music [in the sense that people in Russia seems to be listening to it].... I can't understand why Russia seems to have stopped submitting such entries... instead, they try to use Eurovision has a tool to fool Europe around or submit "Eurovision-esque" sounding entries.

Current Russian artist I really like are, for example, Elena Temnikova, Kristina Si, MBand, Vladislav Ramm, Dima Bilan, MATRANG, Sogdiana (she's half Uzbek, though), Natan (born in Kazakhstan), Hanna (her song "Puli" is dope), Nyusha, Ioanna Karaulova, ...

The problem comes that mostly of the names that you sugested aren't interesed in Eurovision as well. Plus both channels who are responsible for the participation of Russia in Eurovision every year, have different musical visions to the Russian public. While Channel One is very conservative with its selections with its songs of ''world peace'', the Rossiya-1 that will participate now is the most liberal one but managed at Kirkurov's whim.

and these are his real  words:

The information on these dates doesn't look correct to me, but the news should be there by the end of the month. In general, things coming from that VK page are usually wild rumours.
