I listened through all these whilst talking with @Gera11 which was an experience :coffee: I enjoyed the selection. iolanda's Grito was probably the standout here. It starts softly but does build well with a couple of surprises thrown in. Mila Dores' Afia a Língua I feel is the most unique offering. It creates a really mysterious, slightly uncanny atmosphere that I'm digging.

I feel like João Borsch might be the safest choice now that we don't have juries in the semi. His song is catchy, a little bit edgy and could be staged memorably. Doce Mistério could maybe also work as it brings the party. I love the chorus on that one. So cute.

I would be concerned a bit with the chances of the ballads without having the jury to help. I know technically Maro would have made the final on the strength of just the televote, but while some of the ballads this year are good, they're not on Saudade Saudade levels of special.

Mila Dores - Afia a Língua (9/10)
iolanda - Grito (9/10)

Leo Middea - Doce Mistério (8/10)
João Borsch - ... Pelas Costuras (8/10)
LEFT. - Volto a Ti (8/10)
Perpétua - Bem Longe Daqui (8/10)
Cristina Clara - Primavera (8/10)
Buba Espinho - O Farol (8/10)

Bispo - Casa Portuguesa (7/10)
Rita Rocha - Pontos Finais (7/10)

Rita Onofre - Criatura (6/10)
Maria João - Dia (6/10)
Huca - Pé de Choro (6/10)
Nena - Teorias da Conspiração (6/10)

Silk Nobre - Change (5/10)
MELA - Água (5/10)
No Maka FT. Ana Maria - Aceitar (5/10)
NOBLE - Memory (5/10) @Looren's incoming favourite
João Couto - Quarto para Um (5/10)
FILIPA - You Can't Hide (5/10)

I gott curious to see what other songs Luar, who produced Iolanda's song, had and found this gem:

Rita Onofre is also competing in this year and this song would have worked so much better, it is also low/mid tempo, but has a catchy hook that the public can sing along with.

Iolanda or João Borsch!

After just the first listen, I have to listen to everything again, but I'm happy with this year's song selection.

FdC is incapable of being bad I swear, hopefully I never have to listen to Change again that was the most exhausting message song I have ever heard

1-Iolanda – Grito 9.5/10 ( Influences of Fado, enveloping and melodious instrumental, intense and sincere lyrics, felt this with Maro, it was an absolute 'click', I think I have no doubts about my winner this year, I didn't know Iolanda, what a pleasant surprisexheart)

2-João Borsch – …Pelas Costuras 8.5/10 (That's what was missing in the other editions, something different, even though I think the package isn't for everyone, I loved it)
3-Nena – Teorias da Conspiração 8/10
4-Rita Rocha – Pontos Finais 8/10
5-No Maka feat. Ana Maria – Aceitar 7.5/10 (
It's so basic, but it was the one that stuck in my head the most, such a cute voice)
6-Rita Onofre – Criatura 7.5/10 (a good surprise, just a little repetitive to not be better)
7- Buba Espinho – O Farol 7.5/10 ( unfortunately another small disappointment, the music is very beautiful, the lyrics are incredible, but something is missing to make this stand out, maybe a choir in the chorus? (with Alentejanos), I think it might still win me over, but it's not enough for now)
8- NOBLE – Memory 7.5/10 (I love the ending, other than that the song is a little boring and basic, the final package isn't bad at all, but I expected better)
9- Mila Dores – Afia a Língua 7/10
10-FILIPA – You Can’t Hide 6.5/10
(Maybe she wanted to send the song to Melodifestivalen?) - I believe it could have power on a big stage and with a performance Wow, nothing is going to happen here and the jury hardly supports this, I don't even see that in the final) - Anyway, surprised and happy to see something like this at the festival
11-Bispo – Casa Portuguesa 6/10
12-MELA – Água 6/10
13-Huca - Pé de Choro 5.5/10

14-Silk Nobre – Change 5/10 (very different feelings about it here)
15-Maria João – Dia 4.5/10 (It's still confusing for me, but the beauty is here, many call Bjork Portuguese, but there's something missing for me to like)
16-Perpétua – Bem Longe Daqui 4.5/10
17-LEFT. – Volto a Ti 4/10
18-Cristina Clara - Primavera 3.5/10
19-Leo Middea – Doce Mistério 2/10
20-João Couto - Quarto para Um
1.5/10

I'm joining the Iolanda bandwagon.

Nice tribute song to Sara Tavares by Huca. However, I don't find it proper to compete at Festival da Cancao.

1. Iolanda - "Grito"
2. Left - "Volto a Ti"

3. Silk Nobre - "Change"
4. João Borsch - "Pelas Costuras"

5. Mela - "Água"
6. Mila Dores - "Afia a Língua"
7. Filipa - "You Can't Hide"
8. Nena - "Teorias da Conspiração"
(9. Huca - "Pé De Choro" )

10. Rita Onofre - "Criatura"
11. Maria João - "Dia"
12. João Couto - "Quarto Para Um"
13. Rita Rocha - "Pontos finais"
14. Bispo - "Casa Portuguesa"
15. Léo Middea - "Doce Mistério"

16. No Maka ft Ana Maria - "Aceitar"
17. Buba Espinho - "O Farol"
18. Perpétua - "Bem Longe Daqui"
19. Cristina Clara - "Primavera"
20. Noble - "Memory"

Interesting selection though. Some diversity and different sounds, some bland songs also.. but i don't really *dislike* any of them.

It's always so refreshing seeing songs written and performed by the artist and the artist alone, no songcamp bullshit, no artifical consumerist written with eurovision in mind nonsense

FdC is the best every year, there is no music here just art in the form of extensions of who the artists are

I love you Portugal

I haven't found instant "masterpieces" yet ("A Festa" would have been my #1 in May if it had won in Portugal) but Portugal clearly deliver some quality entries again.

It's difficult to rank all of them, tbh but I personally like these entries (my Top 6):

1. No Maka feat. Ana Maria - Aceitar :10:
1. João Borsch - "Pelas Costuras" :10:
1. Iolanda - "Grito" :10:
4. Mila Dores - "Afia a Língua" :8:
5. Bispo - "Casa Portuguesa" :8:
6. Rita Onofre - "Criatura" :8:

I really love Iolanda and Grito. So powerful and one of the few songs so far in this national selection season giving me goosebumps.

Have they released odds yet? How likely is the song to win?

Ok, well i'm not going to present my rank where 75% of the songs are below a 5/10. FdC has never been my thing, and in its current form it never will be. I find FdC to be completely dull. However, I can see why so many of you do enjoy the line up year after year and it's nice to see that they're all singing songs they've written themselves. I agree songwriting camps are a plague.

On a nicer note, there is one song here I love. It has gone straight into my playlist. Nena – Teorias da Conspiração, it feels like such a sweet and happy song. It's not really similar but I get the same feeling as I do with your 2009 entry which is one of my favourite entries from Portugal. It seems it's far from a favourite here or in general so I'll just enjoy it for myself. João Borsch – ... Pelas Costuras is another song I like, it stood out to me in this line up for sure.
