Re: GREECE 2012

There is a rumor from someone in the comments section of an article on OGAE Greece that there will be 3 groups and 2 female singers. According to this person, the group are Playmokills, Velvet Fire, and another new group by Leonidas Chantzaras. The female singers are Eleftheria Eleftheriou and someone named Ntora. According to this person, Ntora has the most modern sounding song, but it is highly unlikley Greeks will vote for it he claims. *Side note: There is no singer named Ntora listed on Universal Greece's website.

Also, at the same time Yupi claims that Christos P. is still a possible choice. Eitherway, it is expected that ERT will announce the names officially soon.

Re: GREECE 2012

Hey guys, first time poster, but I was reading through the last pages of the thread and wanted to say a few things based on my lurking through Greek media / social media.

1. The only artist we can be certain about is Eleftheria - she has retweeted a couple articles with a leaked list in them (the one with her, Malou, Panagiotis, Christos P. and Velvet Fire), and also thanked people who wished her luck with the selection. Add the Tralala article about her Eurovision song to this...

2. While I'm super impressed with the work CypriotGirl did to introduce the composers/lyricists on that list, does this have any sort of source? Because, for example, it says Maria Iakovou's song are Filippou / Papadopoulos, and in an interview with her today on Tralala she is speaking about her upcoming single which will come out in a few days - it doesn't mention Eurovision unlike Eleftheria's article. I think it would be really really weird to release a single AND a national final song at the same time, but the single can't be by Filippou / Papadopoulos because she says in the article that it's a cooperation with two people she hadn't worked with before, and not only Filippou / Papadopoulos wrote her last single together, Papadopoulos had composed almost all of her songs to date. So that single can't be by them. Also she is supposed to be on tour with Ploutarxos in North America from the end of April until the middle of May.

3. My personal guess regarding the list is the artists that are most worthy for Universal to promote. i.e already with some fan base if possible and mainstream. This is a great chance for Universal to have an evening on TV (and of course all the press leading up to it) to get ton of PR for young artists they believe can break it. I actually almost suspect that all the different various leaked lists are from Universal, so even the artists who are not on the real lineup will get some PR and curiosity around them.

4. In addition to 3, I don't know if it's anything to go by, but just something to think about: in the last months Universal done ton of PR to Velvet Fire and Christos P. In more recent weeks, since Eleftheria/Malou/Panagiotis officially joined Universal, they have been getting quite a bit of PR too (with Eleftheria, as I said, the only one pretty much being confirmed for the line up).

PS random fact which I hadn't see in the last few pages but if it was mentioned, my apologies: if Eleftheria does get to go to Eurovision, being Cypriots and from the same area wouldn't be the only thing she and Ivi has in common - they also been in the same season (and category) of the X Factor in 2009, and would make the list of X Factor people to have been involved with Eurovision have 4 names (Ivi, Loukas, Nikolas Metaxas as a composer and Eleftheria), all Cypriot.

Re: GREECE 2012

You bring up excellent points Shi. The list of composers/acts mentioned has been going around on some Eurovision sites, no firm sources. There is no way to know if it is true.

I have read various reasons as to why ERT has not announced anything yet. Some say the list of artists is finalized, while others say it is still being worked on. My opinion? I think everything is finalized, but ERT is waiting for the right moment to announce it. Greece is going through tough times right now, so it would not look good for ERT to release these names when rioters are burning buildings in Athens...

My guess is much more simple - since that article with Eleftheria going to record her Eurovision song was only a few days ago, I would say they only locked on songs in the recent days, and will probably release the names and even the songs once everything is recorded. Since it's just one record company, unlike previous years, there's no real worry of leaks or anything, they are recording and collecting everything.

Timing wise? The NF is 2-3 weeks away. I don't think there's going to be a GOOD timing to announce anything.

Re: GREECE 2012

The rumors say that the provisional date for the NF is March 5th. Also when the ERT officially announced that they were teaming up with Universal, I remember I read a rumor in a comments section saying ERT was going to release the names/songs on February 20. I didn't believe it at the time since it seemed so far away, but it is looking like it may be true now. Regarding leaks, anything can happen since the songs get passed around for opinions. (at least they did in past years) Somehow the wrong people always get a hold of them, and they have certain malicious reasons to leak them. I hope ERT releases the songs before anything happens.

Re: GREECE 2012

Let me rephrase this: even if something leaks, it's not like another record company is going to jump in and complain about one of the contestants having an unfair advantage, and I find it hard to believe that contestants will go against each other in public if something like this happens. Also, since ERT made a point about Universal paying a bit part of this and being pretty much responsible for organizing this, I am sure they will be a little more flexible with DQ rules. I think that last year when the leaks started they just released the songs in full, and let's say that if one record company is doing all the recordings it's most likely that either everything will leak together or nothing will leak at all.

Yeah, I knew that the composers, participants and song titles are not confirmed even before making that list. It didn't take me much time, I'm fast in such things! Hehe!

Btw, I also read somewhere that, just like Maria Iakovou, Eleftheria was in the studio recording her new single, and no Eurovision was mentioned.

The original MadCY article said so, and also in Eleftheria's case she already confirmed herself she was in.

In that page it speaks about Konstantinos Frantzis too. Hmmmmm, another Sakis-copycat, with weak vocal abilities, but able to make the Euro-fans crazy about his body?

Re: GREECE 2012

He's actually an ok singer when he sings things that suits him. I've seen much worse. is this the time where I point out that Sakis isn't a great live singer or will I get shoes thrown at me? And I think he's no worse than Martakis, anyway - and you did choose his worst performance. Also, he's doing the bouzoukia rounds with Mazonakis now, so it's good practice. Lookwise he's not really my taste, but then again neither are Sakis and Martakis, so what do I know.

Also, look at this from Universal's angle. They know the songs, we don't, but I'm sure that they have some idea about who has more realistic chances of going and who doesn't, but having a night on TV with a bunch of your artists is great for PR. However, because they are waiting with the announcement so much they are missing on all the PR their artists can get in the time leading up to the NF...

Re: GREECE 2012

Of course, I am sure that Universal knows that 1 or 2 of the acts are the certain winners, while the rest will be there for more of a PR reason. Of course I could be wrong and all the acts could have solid songs and performances.

His worst performance? Well, he didn't have any other. He stayed only 2 weeks in Greek Idol, and I posted both of his performances...

Ah, you're right. I probably thought of his auditions as well, on both seasons, that adds a few. Wonder if there are clips of him from his shows with Mazw. He's still better than other people who have been on both season of Greek Idol and reached higher (Antigoni and Nikol, I am looking at you).

Re: GREECE 2012

Star Channel is claiming "exclusive" details. Again these are all rumors and may not be true.

They say that in addition to Eleftheria Eleftheriou and Velvet Fire (which they reported earlier are in the NF), there will be two unknown singers. They also say that one of the songs in the NF will be written by Claydee Lupa. As for the song releases, Star Channel says that ERT and Universal are planning to release them over the internet with the acts and the writers of the songs concealed. A few days later (around February 27-29) they plan to reveal the names. They also say that there is no firm date for the NF yet, but it will definitely happen sometime within the first 10 days of March.

There is also another rumor going around that ERT is planning to release details next Friday. (February 24)
