Origin Story of the Dež Republic:

Long before the world came to know its name, the land that would become the Dež Republic was a crossroads of tribes, warriors, and visionaries — each with their own languages, customs, and ambitions. These lands, nestled between vast mountain ranges and rolling rivers, were often overlooked by empires that saw them as ungovernable, fractured, and wild.
But from the shadows of chaos rose a force that would forever change history.

The Fractured Lands

Centuries ago, this territory was ruled not by a single crown, but by a dozen feuding factions—each clinging to a piece of the land, and a piece of power. These groups spoke a variety of tongues, including the ancient roots of Dežian, dialects of Serbian, and trade-era English brought by wandering merchants and exiled poets.

The constant warfare forged not just warriors—but survivors. Those who lived through the endless cycle of betrayal and siege became sharper, more resilient, and more unified in one idea: Only unity could bring peace.

The Rise of the Dežurni

Legend tells of a nameless strategist, shrouded in a black cloak, known only as the Dežurni—The Watcher. This figure did not lead armies through brute force but orchestrated them with unmatched intelligence and foresight. It is said the Dežurni could anticipate a rebellion before it formed, and dismantle a coup before it moved.

One by one, the Dežurni commander infiltrated the strongholds of the divided lands—not to conquer them, but to convince them. Through diplomacy, cunning, and careful manipulation, this mysterious leader brought together the chieftains under a new banner: Dež, meaning “vigilance” in the old tongue.

Founding of Dežilburg

When unity was finally achieved, a new capital was erected where the borders of the old factions met. They named it Dežilburg—a tribute to the melting pot of peoples, beliefs, and languages that now stood united. It wasn’t just a city. It was a message.

From Dežilburg, the Dežurni commander would continue to lead—not as a king, but as a sentinel. The position became an office, not a throne. Every leader would take on the name “Dežurni,” honoring the original guardian of the republic’s ideals: unity, strength, and above all, awareness.

The Motto: “We Are Watching You”

The Dež Republic adopted a chilling but resolute motto:
“We are watching you.”

To outsiders, it was a warning. To citizens, it was a promise. In a nation forged from betrayal and conflict, the watchful eye of the Dežurni ensures that no corruption festers, no enemy goes unseen, and no voice is silenced. Surveillance is not tyranny—it is protection. Constant vigilance is the republic’s greatest strength.

A Modern Sentinel Nation

Today, the Dež Republic is a proud, multilingual nation of 6 million, where English, Dežian, and Serbian intermingle in the streets of Dežilburg. Its people carry the weight of history in their culture and the sharpness of their ancestors in their eyes.

Every citizen, in their own way, is a watcher.
And so long as they watch, the Republic stands.
