Well Czechia, if it's any consolation, you're my mum's favourite of the year...

Even I didn't see that one coming tbh

I could never see this one advancing, even before tonight's performance - the song just had a kind of cold, sterile feel, and that's exactly how the performance came over sadly.

I hope Ahmad's job also includes something else apart from spreading half-truths and making big statements with tons of grammar mistakes  I used to give a lot of credit to his posts since he is an official member of the Česká televize delegation and it was not a pleasant surprise when his claims turned out to be far from the truth

I think he can be great guy to have on a team with his crazy cheerful personality, someone that can take the pressure off the artists, but how he's been handling the communication on social media is something else.. I confronted him on X when he teased the release of ADONXS music video as the best in ESC history, like is it really necessary to make such statements?
Oh well, I just hope they learn from all of this..

probably not, it's been their strategy for ages, even back under Jan Bors... I guess it's good that/if they are passionate about what they are doing, but there is a reason why they are professionals - they should be able to take a step back and make some (semi)objective calls.

To be fair though, the staging was good the past few years, so this year's mess shouldn't be held against them and I appreciate ADONXS taking the opportunity seriously, he and his team did put a lot of effort into the performance even though it didn't come together as they'd probably hoped

I'm so sad for Czechia. They have sent so many great songs over the years, every year I'm praying they're not withdrawing, they seem to be among the shakiest participants. Adonxs song didn't click with me, but I also didn't mind it.

When I heard the acoustic version, I thought it was a lock jury top 3.
Then the standard version was out ( featuring a diabolical dancebreak ) and it all started feeling way less special.
Then I saw the abysmal staging and that indifferent choreo and I knew. Adonxs nerves tonight were the final nail in the coffin.
So much potential, all ruined by awful choices one after another.

Jan Bors was actually watching along and commenting the semifinal with other eurofans on the Czech ESC Discord tonight and he certainly did not hold back with strong criticism of our delegation. :D but we all know Jan is also a special case on his own, so... yeah

Where do I even start? First off, starting with a gigantic spider on the mic because why not?
Who thought, “Yeah, let’s throw off the audience from the get-go”? Viewers are already confused before the music even starts. Then the dress reveal—yikes. The first look seemed like it came from a nightmare, and the second one? Even worse. At least the horrendous makeup from the rehearsals came off, so there’s that.

Now, onto the music. A random dance break in the middle? Sure, it’s fine if you want to show off your moves in what might be your only shot at Eurovision. But that beat sweetie, it was straight outta GarageBand app on iPhone, too amateur, what is the target audience for that beat? (excuse you lavie and rainy x)

The choreography? Not bad, but was it really impactful enough to be forgiven to be thrown in the middle of a power ballad for no reason? I don't think so.

With all that said, I do think he'd do top 10 with the juries had he qualified.
The voice was there, but the aesthetic choices... everything went as wrong as it possibly could.

Indeed is he special. Would be nice to know, what he did adress in his rants or criticism.
But honestly, the delegation and HoD do deserve criticism.

We need more modesty and realism. And we also finally need to understand that the ESC is an entertainmentd show where music is in focus but with plenty of demand for other components which have to fit. The wanted search for a banger of the charts is futile.

Adonxs lacked authenticity, his self-presentation was too camp for my taste and the staging absolutely did not fit the message of the song, the spider on the mic was an absolutely pointless gimmick.

It is hard to admit, but comparing it to last year, where our "splendid" delegation did not have TOP 5 fantasies, Aiko delivered a much more sincere and authentic performance, despite NQ as well.

the rehearsal clip from last week felt more intimate, more close up. I also LOVED his glitter eyeliner. When I watched I was confused, as it seemed different/lacking than the clips I had already seen. So I compared the rehearsal clip and the sf2 performance and yup, more wide shots, less intimate, and they got rid of his pretty glitter eyeliner (or made it less obvious, being less closeup)

While I have many issues with him usually, he still has lots of industry knowledge and background info on how it works in our ESC team, so I found his criticism quite on point and concstructive this time. And it's still ongoing now  better if you go read it there, find the link on ESC Arena

What's funny is that last year people predicted Aiko to do so badly while this year they predicted top 5, yet Aiko delivered such a strong performance it was so coordinated.
Is this really the same team that did the staging of pedestal?
Its day and night.

Nobody knows why it was like that. But indeed, Aiko was better performance wise, despite never being a clear contender for Q.
But i will put it this way: Choices were made and mistakes were made.

I'm sure the dance break killed all the chances for this to qualify

Not only the dancebreak. The dancebreak simply was a catalyst for the other flaws imho. There was connecting spot for the casual viewer, no dynamics, no nothing...a sterile performance and not even a flawless one. Deserved NQ even if painful for Czechia.
