It appears that Voxovation – formerly known as ASC, Inc. – have decided to push the Eurovision brand into South America following the inaugural season of the American Song Contest, and the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest Canada starting in 2023.

According to the EBU’s press release, Eurovision Song Contest Latin America will be the operating name of the project and will target some of the countries with the largest Eurovision viewing markets. Research from the 2022 contest shows that Argentina, Chile, Mexico, and Brazil will likely be highly tipped to compete in the contest.

What should we expect?

The contest will also be overseen by the same individuals who created and produced the American Song Contest including Christer Björkman Peter Settman and Greg Lipstone. The same team will also work on Eurovision Song Contest Canada.

Speaking about the project, Peter and Greg stated that, “Fans across Latin America have consistently shown up and showed out for the Eurovision Song Contest brand, and Eurovision Song Contest Latin America is the embodiment of that fervent passion, as well as a continuation of the broad vision we, the producing team, have for Eurovision as a global brand.”

The producers are currently working to find a host city for the contest, and state that the search is occurring in “top-performing Latin American markets”. This could mean that Argentina, Chile, Brazil, and Mexico are currently being tapped to host the inaugural contest.

Collaboration with RTVE?

Spanish broadcaster RTVE announced earlier this year their desire to launch Hispavision, and following the announcement, the broadcaster announced that they wish to meet with the EBU and Voxovation to discuss a collaboration.

Hispavision was to be a song festival featuring Spanish-speaking countries, alongside Portugal and Brazil and was to be hosted in Cartagena, Colombia next year. The show was to be modeled after Eurovision, making the merger of the two ideas an easy idea. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday July 14th in Prado del Rey, the main production center and headquarters for RTVE.

In the event that a deal is not reached, the new Eurovision show may have a rival production to compete with, much like how the American Song Contest competed with American Idol on NBC earlier this year.

Additional information about song and artist selection, participating countries, and air dates will be announced at a later time.
