Over the past few years, the Belgian National Finals have been rather small and uneventful but that’s about to change. The Flemish broadcaster VRT just announced their plans for the 2014 selection process of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Eurosong 2014 will give anyone in Belgium the opportunity to become the next representative. Candidates will have to send in a clip performing a Eurovision Song contest, it supposed to be in a different style than the way it was performed during Eurovision. So it’s possible that we’ll get to hear a Rap version of “Only teardrops”. There are no limitations on the song selection so if someone wants to perform the first winning entry ever “Refrain” by Lys Assis, they are free to do so.

The last Flemish effort flopped when Iris finished 17th in the Semis with the song “Would You?”

The broadcaster will separately look for composers which do not have to be from Belgium, they can apply accordingly hoping to be the lucky one chosen.

More details to be revealed soon but it is apparent that after Roberto Belarossa’s qualification in 2013 with his song “Love Kills,” the broadcaster is ready to repeat and/or improve the outcome.

A short trailer was released which you can watch below.

More information will be made available on the broadcasters website HERE.

For many years the francophone and Flemish broadcasters have been taking turns choosing the Eurovision entry so only time will tell if the new Flemish approach will be effective. What are your thoughts, do you think this will increase the Belgian odds or should they stick to what they’ve been doing?
