Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

There is a campaign to get Terry Wogan to Christmas Number One with The Floral Dance:

I think it would be a great tribute!

A perfect choice would be Rag n' Bone Man. Big in Europe, unknown here. Nothing to lose and plenty to win.

I WISH the UK would send something like that... it'd be PERFECT. Sadly, I don't think it's going to happen :(

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

Roja, the group from BBC4 show UK's Best Part Time Band who responded to me on twitter to say they'd be keen on ESC, have a new single out.

I'd still be surprised if they actually entered, but, hey they're a better shot than our other suggestions!

Shouldn't there already be 50 pages of drama in the UK thread by now? What a slow season this is!

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

I am really surprised that nobody mentioned the current speculations about Spice Girls (or GEM, as three of them now call themselves).

Wiwibloggs: "Song for her" lyrics - Spice Girls GEM (Eurovision 2017?)

If I understand it correctly, it´s more or less just Wiwibloggs William´s wishful thinking, but seriously - not even one poisonously sarcastic commentary in the UK thread? What a mystery.

Doesn't Geri get tossed around in some way as a rumor every year?

The Spice Girls at Eurovision? Expected success: Between British has-been Bonnie Tyler (19th) and the has-been girl band No Angels (23rd).

they're not even worth the drama. They wouldn't stand a chance, especially with that song. I imagine the Spice Girls would sink, but a group that isn't all of them? :'d Needn't bother.

Yes, this was a heavily rumoured song for 2014.

Any of the Spice Girls as solo artists would be good for ESC. I don't get it why Geri, Emma and Mel B keep on insisting in wanting to reform the group at every cost, even without the participation of Victoria and Mel C, instead of releasing new music on their own.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

maybe this thread is not high on drama because people just... gave up on the uk? it probably should have happened sooner tbh

also the spice girls-gem song would ABSOLUTELY finish last with ~15 points, so

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

Honestly, the UK needs to be sending modern music, stuff along the lines of 2014. Spice Girls wouldn't automatically be awful, but that leaked song would not perform well at ESC.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

The Spice Girls will never do eurovision, and that song is just a leaked demo.

The UK needs to keep doing what it's been doing recently but do it better: a national final, with up-and-coming and lesser-known artists.

Improvements to the national selection process would be 8-10 songs instead of 6 and the inclusion of an International/European jury.

The UK is starting to approach Eurovision in the right way for the modern era. If it keeps going ahead with a proper national final, encouraging modern entries and providing an opportunity for talented but underheard musicians, it will start to pay off. Molly and Joe and Jake didn't fair that well, and in my opinion much worse than they deserved, but they were important steps in the right direction and part of the UK succeeding again is to year-on-year (re)build its reputation.

It's not hard: a good song, from a legitimate artist with a decent live stage production. Not cheap, not dated and light on the cheese.

I'm looking forward to the national final... onwards and upwards!

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2017

Out of the Spice Girls, the only real artist who could be promising for Eurovision would be Mel C imo. She's got a distinctive voice, she can sing live (as far as I remember) and the songs she's been releasing as a solo artists are far from bad. Unfortunately, she hasn't gained the recognition she deserves for her work, I guess she could interested in the media exposure Eurovision provides. Besides, she seems to be at ease in different music genres.

Rumor spreading on the net is Natasha Bedingfield submitted a song xqueenbitch

I would totally be here for Natasha! "Unwritten" and "Pocket Full of Sunshine" are great and still gets loads of airplay in the US and "The One that Got Away" is a personal favorite

Woah, where are these rumours coming from? Natasha would be an interesting choice for sure. Would she compete in a NF though?
