The Irish singer-songwriter Erica Cody has been announced as the first of six acts competing for Ireland’s entry to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. Erica is participating with the song “Love Me Like I Do”, co-written with Ruthanne, Aimee & produced by Richey McCourt.

Erica describes her song as the ultimate feel good self-love anthem, a song which helped her navigate life through a recent break-up. The singer-songwriter has been releasing music independently since 2017. If Erica is selected she would be the first person of colour to represent Ireland at the Eurovision.

You can listen to the song here:

Each of the six acts competing, like today will be revealed throughout this week on the Ray D’Arcy Show between 16:00 and 17:30 CET on RTÉ Radio 1.

Ireland at Eurovision

Ireland debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965 and shares a joint record total of seven wins with Sweden. It is the only country to have won three times consecutively, 1992 to 1994, with 92 winning in Malmo, Sweden with Linda Martin’s ‘Why Me’. Ireland has struggled at Eurovision of late, qualifying just twice in the last 10 years. Last year’s entry by Wild Youth failed to qualify, their song ‘We Are One’ finished 12th our 15th in their semi-final with a total of 10 points.
