Are you ready to rock out? In case you had any fears that we wouldn’t see a rock entry at the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, Slovenia has come to save the day.

Foregoing its usual national selection show, EMA, Broadcaster RTV Slovenijahas opted for an internal decision and announced their chosen artist: Joker Out, a five-piece rock band that describes their sound as “shagadelic rock’n’roll.” It’s sexy, psychedelic, a little retro, and of course, authentically Slovenian — but no word yet on whether their song will be in Slovene like the rest of their catalog.

RTV said the decision to opt for an internally selected act this year was not a hard one to make, and praised Joker Out as one of the most successful, exciting and critically acclaimed bands in Slovenia.

A minute-long video about the artist reveal tells us some of the qualities that will make these Slovenian stars stand out in Liverpool: “The hottest band… mesmerizing live performances… shagadelic sound,” the captions read.

Joker Out’s song will be revealed to the public in a special show on Feb. 4.

Here’s what the rising stars had to say about their selection:

“All members in the band are big fans of the Eurovision. It is our wish to perform there for some time now, but we were waiting for the right moment,” the band said in a statement. “Although we are young, the fast progress of our career has brought us loads of experience, motivation and creative energy: we are ready for this challenge.”

“Regarding the style of music present at the Eurovision Song Contest – we need to say that it is well past being defined or limited to just one genre. We are staying true to our distinctive Joker Out sound, no matter where and when we perform,” they said.

The band consists of five members: Bojan Cvjetićanin, Kris Guštin, Jan Peteh, Jure Maček and Martin Jurkovič. Their most second full-length album, Demoni, dropped in August 2022.
