Tonight, three more songs join the Eurovision 2023 lineup in Liverpool. And while Spain and Norway have fans on the edge of their seats with highly competitive national selections, changing the channel (a.k.a., the tabs on our computers) to watch RTV’s Eurovision special Misija Liverpool is a breath of fresh air — Slovenia’s broadcaster already internally selected the band Joker Out.
RTV revealed Joker Out’s entry “Carpe Diem” at the closing of the special this evening with a live performance and the release of the music video. The show shared a behind-the-scenes look at how Joker Out recorded their song and video, and included a star-studded lineup of performances from Slovenian Eurovision alumni, including: Amaya (2011), LPS (2021), Nuša Derenda (2001) and Tomaž Mihelič (2002), plus Serbian singer Konstrakta, who took home a top five spot for her nation in Turin last year.
The official music video for “Carpe Diem” is out now! Watch it below:
The song is an upbeat, dreamy, indie rock track with a message about living your best life that will certainly resonate with younger listeners. The music video features the bands adventures in an eccentric hotel.
The band has previously stressed the importance of keeping “Carpe Diem” in Slovenian.
“With our interpretation and performance, we want to translate Slovenian into a universal language of dance and entertainment that all countries understand,” band member Jan Peteh told RTV in Slovenian. Fellow band member Kris Guštin said that Joker Out would like to show Europeans what “shagadelic rock’n’roll” is all about.
Keep an eye out for more coverage of Joker Out over the coming week!
