...am I the only person who saw the live and thought they might actually do alright? (feel free to laugh when it bottoms out tomorrow)

If they pull off a respectable result despite the doomsaying from us lot I'll give them credit. But I'm not sure, that live performance, it might have been just bad audio but the song just seems too clumsy and too off putting to too many people.

I have a feeling this will bottom 5 to be honest, I see some jury points but 0 or single digit televotes. I like the song personally, but this is what I think will happen.

Depends what the jury points will be. We avoided being near the bottom end of the scoreboard last year being 13th with the juries.

Eurofans are dramatically negative with the UK, sometimes deserved and sometimes not. I can think of several entries this year that I would put lower than the UK if I was a jury member.

If just the UK invited its best elite songwriters you could probably be a contender every year. That is what you have to do. The song this year apart from using the word hell which is negative for most people is a bit messy and contrived but it not the worst song of the final. And the girls are quality.

Nah, we need songs for Eurovision written by people that stood in line for a hamburger with someone who wrote a song for the Netherlands' national selection in 2010 to write it. And it has to be a song that only works on the studio version and with a vocalist that can't physically sing it. It is the only logical solution!

The UK is the second biggest exporter of music after the US with Sweden being third. So there is talent there but do the big songwriters write for Eurovision not that I now of. There are actually only three countries that are net exporters of music. But in the UK it is not cool to take part in Eurovision I guess that is the reason for UK underperforming. A bit childish of the establishment to let such feelings stop them.

The comparison with the Latvian song is so pointless, it's a completely different kind of song.

It's not a dance song
There's no electronic beat
There's no folk element
It's in English.

You may as well compare it to any other song in the contest.

The Icelandic song is basically a cheap dance number but it's liked as it has a Euro dance style that some around Europe want in Eurovision. But that doesn't mean it's better than this song.

I'm still puzzled why Space Man did so well really, because it wasn't at all 2020s Eurovision style. All I can think of is the UK leading the support in Europe to Ukraine helped.

So, my immidate take away; We know how to pick acts that are nice people and good spokespersons, we are getting better at staging, we are far better at making music videos than we used to be, we just need to bridge the gap into getting votes from the public.

Imagine the implications of that double 0 in all televote final 💀. Getting 12 from a mouse was a highlight

Oh yeah someone earlier in the thread said that was swearing, someone who presumably isn't even a native English speaker. Tell that to someone in the UK and they'd be laughed at in the face and probably get a few actual swear words back. Criticising someone's use of their own language only ever seems to be done with English language native speakers and I find it ridiculous really.

Who the Hell is Edgar was very popular and I don't remember any comment about it using a swear word or whatever. And Bambi Thug was popular saying she's a witch and she got a high placing.

Getting 12 points from Italy was the highlight for sure. :D

Yeah, there was no way that vocal performance and unique song by Remember Monday was going to be ignored by the juries. (y)
The public vote is disgusting, 0 for the UK and Switzerland, and then Estonia and Israel get a huge amount of points in the public vote. (n)
