That song trending in at no 1, not even in the music category, in the general category (!) is very impressive to me. I think we never really had that with any Eurovision song here. The fact that Joost has more views (3.1 million!) in a single day than any other video uploaded to the official channel I think speaks volumes here. No matter what the fandom think, Europapa has already taken off and now the sky is the limit Watch out.
I feel like what makes the ending so good is the fact that it's so abrupt. It's supposed to give a somewhat emotional whiplash and it does so through the music.I've been fully on board with the weird entries so far this year (Croatia, Estonia, Finland, plus Switzerland if you count that), but this one isn't really doing it for me. The verses are fun, with a good beat (especially in the second), but the song seems to lose a lot of energy in the chorus... and then the rave part's a bit meh, and the ending is nice but the transition to it feels kind of... abrupt? Incohesive? Not sure I'm a fan of his vocals either.
Add to all that that I at least appreciate the song trying to be different, and I'm interested to see how it's done live, and I end up with for now.
I might be mistaken, but I'm happy to see that, in general, the Dutch really like the song. I think that's the most important thing, for the people of the country in question to like what they're sending!
This is going viral even outside the esc circles. Already 3,7M views in less than two days and an abundance of reaction videos praising it. Public is eating it up. Deny Eurodaddy all you want - he's coming.
Yeah I feel like if didn’t have that song would probably be more a televote magnet. Now with Europapa I think is massively threatened by . Europapa is a more dynamic, catchy and less repetitive song than Rim Tim Dagi Tim. And it’s more connectable for the average outside bubble viewers in my opinion.Youtube trending:
1. the Netherlands
1. Belgium
3. Austria
7. Germany
14. UK
23. Finland
35. Croatia
36. Estonia
This is the song that could storm the televote, not Croatia, which is just popular within Croatia and maybe Slo. and Ser.
Or the opposite: Out of all the joke and semi joke entries, Cha Cha Cha had some quality - it was thought through -, while most of the others just try to draw maximum attention by all means (the Russian grandmothers phenomenon). At least we can hope that they will cancel each other out to some extent. For me, this, Finland, Estonia and Croatia’s songs are all cynical attempts at trying to copy Cha Cha Cha. They all lack a genuine feeling to me.
Oh I agree Cha Cha Cha had something about it that made it much more than a gimmicky wacky song. For me it treaded a fine line between fun and gimmicky, but didn’t go into gimmick overload. It had a genuine quality to it.Or the opposite: Out of all the joke and semi joke entries, Cha Cha Cha had some quality - it was thought through -, while most of the others just try to draw maximum attention by all means (the Russian grandmothers phenomenon). But the losers are the countries that come with pleasant midtempo songs. They will easily drown between the silly songs and the oh so lovely old-fashioned ballads.

Compare that to Let3 whose gimmick was old men singing in the underwear, Cha Cha Cha is a masterpiece. I know Let3 were being genuine to themselves but presented to wider Europe, it was a gimmick and what a ‘typical Eurovision’ song remains for many people.
Eurovision has been changing that opinion bit by bit in recent years, but as I say, that’s now under threat from the Cha Cha Cha-lite entries were getting this year…
