London WV72: Lara A King "It Ain't Mississippi"

Yup, here it is. My final London entry. So there is a bit of story with this one, so in the words of Tilly from Miranda "Bear with"! So... I came across Ms. King completely by accident when watching one of my favourite girl groups ever. At the time, I didn't realise Lara had a role of her own to play as she didn't do much in the song I was watching. In fact, to be honest, I didn't even realise it was a "she"; thought it was a man So fast-forward a bit to May this year. Calvin was over and we were watching the DVD of this girl group's show, including the song we both adored from it, and suddenly at the start of the second half, this lady comes on stage for a short comedy routine, which ended with a beautiful song; "It Ain't Mississippi". It took a bit of searching to find her again after this, but I did and despite a slightly inauspicious start, I am a huge fan of hers.

OK, cool story, you may think, but why now? What's so special about this to make it your final entry? Well... The "girl group" from above is Fascinating Aïda. The song where I first saw her was, of course, "Cheap Flights". Which one is she? The drummer XD

So there you go; the origins of the song! I like this as it's kind of a return to the beginning of my journey with a return to the iconic Fascinating Aïda vibes combining hugely clever comedy with occasionally hugely emotional and poignant music. You've seen FA's comedy; now see the more emotional side.

So for ages this was my plan for leaving London; but there's a final twist... So I went to see Fascinating Aïda in the Edinburgh Fringe in August. It was, of course, amazing, but as I left the tent (it was in a tent; don't ask) there was a woman handing out flyers for another show. I took one, and realised it was Lara's show! I looked back at the woman handing the flyers out... No, surely not? It was. So yes, I am proud to say that this is the first WV entry I have sent where I have met the artist.

So not only is this a very sweet and lovely song, but it also looks back to the beginning of my time in London, as well as being the only artist I've sent whom I've met. A very fitting farewell to my dear Dukedom Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy Lara's music too

I debuted with Cheap Flights in London and ended with the drummer from the same show! I adore FA and was lucky enough to see their show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe earlier this year (and yes, the show I saw was the one they filmed! )...

Well there we have it; the end of my reign. It's been a real blast and I may return one day, but certainly not for some time. Before I go on, I'd like to answer my own quiz

1. Favourite entry? Honestly, I was most chuffed about sending Lara and Victoria; both were never going to make the final in like a zillion years, but they both had such special meaning to me that I was proud to have sent them

2. Best moment? Fascinating Aïda coming 9th and beating Brinty S. and Cheryl Cole. The thought of three women shouting feck being more popular than such global megastars is one of the reasons I enjoy WV so much

3. When was I robbed? Well I never won... Nah, the one that was the most painful was Sky; being so close and seeing so many people expecting it to make it made it a hard loss to take when I just missed out.

4. What should I have sent (can be NF loser or an idea of yours!)? "Whackit on the Dram" would be hilarious, as would have "Bouncy Bouncy Druids". Just to increase the cast of comedic entries

5. What was totally overrated? Nothing

6. What do you think was my favourite moment? See Q2
