Welcome to this FSC June 2018 Spin-Off , featuring many favourite 'Non-English Language' songs
from all over the world. Our host city is : Dakar, Senegal , the capital & largest city of the African
country. It is located on the Cap-Vert peninsula , on the Atlantic coast and is the westernmost city
in the 'Old World' (i.e. a term used for Africa, Europe, and Asia) as well as on the African mainland
The city of Dakar proper has a population of around 1 million whereas the population of the Dakar
metropolitan area is estimated at 2.5 million The area round Dakar was settled in the 15th century
The Portuguese established a presence on the island of Gorée , off the coast of Cap-Vert & used it
as a base for the Atlantic slave trade (of Africans to America). France took over the island in 1677.
Following the abolition of the slave trade , and French annexation of the mainland area in the 19th
century , Dakar grew into a major regional port & major city of the French colonial empire . In 1902
Dakar replaced Saint-Louis as capital of French West Africa. From 1959 to 1960 Dakar was the ca
pital of the Mali Federation. In 1960 it became the capital of the independent Republic of Senegal.
Dakar is home to multiple national and regional banks , and numerous international organizations.
From 1978 to 2007, it was also the traditional finishing point of the famous Dakar Rally. Dakar has
a large Lebanese community , a community of Moroccan business people, as well as Mauritanian,
Cape Verdean & Guinean communities. The city is also home to as many as 20.000 French expats
Places of interest: Village des Arts, Layen Mausoleum, Palais Présidentiel, Mamelles Lighthouse,
Chambre de Commerce, Place de l'Indépendance, Plage de N'gor. & Attractions:-> major markets,
Dakar Mosque ("The Mosque of Divinity") , Dakar Cathedral , Gorée Island, IFAN Museum of West
African culture, and the African Renaissance Monument (the tallest statue in Africa, see picture).
Our Host venue is the Grand Théâtre National du Sénégal in Dakar . Fifty-two years
after its independence, Senegal could celebrate a new cultural jewel: The National Grand Theater,
a marvel located in the heart of the Senegalese capital. It's an imposing building of 4 floors which
offers security and comfort. It opens on a hall of 1250 m2 , for banquets and other ceremonies. It
has a space for seminars , a documentation room , and a modern , electronic surveillance system
managed by professionals. Its style invite all visistors to illustrious shows. The Grand Theater has
luxurious lodges & a hall with 1800 seats. It is said that in Dakar , music is everywhere - in concert
halls (like the Grand Theater) dusty clubs, cafés & at the back of any bus where speakers blast out
jazz, hip-hop, and mbalax (the super catchy local dance music that mixes driving, traditional sabar
drumming with pop popularized by Youssou N'Dour) It's a nation in love with music in all its facets

Khoudia Diop and Aminata Niaria
Khoudia Diop, the now 20 year old model from Senegal, West Africa is continuing to redefine the
standard of beauty . Known as 'melaniin goddess' on social media, she created the name to give
meaning to dark skinned girls, showing them “it’s okay to be dark and that different is beautiful.”
Melaniin goddess’ is all about promoting diversity which aligns her partnership with The Colored
Girl campaign ; their entire portfolio , is dedicated to celebrating , beauty in women of color . She
shares their goal : “to inspire, empower , and uplift” and has a long modeling career ahead of her.
Aminata Niaria is a famous model from Senegal. She was discovered early in 2006 and has been
modeling ever since then . Shortly after being discovered , she signed with Viva Models, and then
made her debut, at the spring Lanvin show in Paris. In 2007 , she walked for countless designers,
including Dries Van Noten , Louis Vuitton , Vivienne Westwood and Roberto Cavalli . In later years
she signed , for IMG worldwide , appeared in German Vogue , and also in AnOther Magazine . She
walked further spring shows in Paris, Milan & New York & has had an impressive modeling career
