Welcome to another FSC Spin-Off!
Welcome to this FSC February 2019 Spin-Off , featuring many great Uptempo-songs from all over
the world. Our host city is Dar es Salaam (formerly Mzizima), the most populous city (pop. ca 4
1/2 million) of Tanzania , located on the Swahili coast on the Indian Ocean . Until 1974 the city of
Dar es Salaam served as Tanzania’s capital city, but it still remains a focus of central government
Dar es Salaam is Tanzania's most prominent city in arts, fashion, media, music, film and television
and a leading financial center . The city is the leading arrival and departure point, for most tourists
who visit Tanzania , including the national parks for safaris , and the islands of Unguja and Pemba
(Zanzibar Archipelago). It is also the largest and most populous Swahili-speaking city in the world.
In the 19th century , Mzizima was a coastal fishing village , on the periphery of Indian Ocean trade
routes. Around 1865 Sultan Majid bin Said of Zanzibar began building a new city and named it Dar
es Salaam. The name is commonly translated as "abode/home/haven of peace", based on the Ara
bic dar ("house") and es salaam ("of peace"). The city grew as center of German East Africa colony
Dar es Salaam has two of the five museums comprising the National Museum of Tanzania conso
rtium, namely the National Museum proper & the Makumbusho Cultural Centre & Village Museum
Close to the National Museum , are also the botanical gardens , with tropical plants & trees. There
are beaches on the Msasani peninsula north of Dar es Salaam and also in Kigamboni to the south
Other city attractions : St. Joseph Cathedral , Azania Front Lutheran Church , State House , Askari
Monument, Kunduchi Wet 'N' Wild Water Park , Kivukoni Fish Market , and Oyster Bay. Though not
the most typical of tourist destinations , the city has plenty festivals, concerts, hotels, restaurants
bars and shops aplenty. Music-wise, 'Bongo Flava', a local type hip-hop style, is the rave right now

ity for all occasions . The Hall is a popular venue in the city , for wedding receptions & concerts of
of different kinds, formal dinners & business meetings. With its high ceiling, marble floors & grand
