Sandhja - Sing It Away

Meet & Greet:

Sandhja Kuivalainen (born 16 March 1991), known professionally as simply Sandhja, is a Finnish singer. She will represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song "Sing It Away". Sandhja was born to an Indo-Guyanese mother and a Finnish father.

In May 2015 she featured on Brandon Bauer's single "The Flavor". On 30 October 2015 she released the single "My Bass". Sandhja was announced as one of the 18 competing artists in Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2016 on 12 January 2016. She competed in the third semi-final and advanced to the final. In the final, she was declared the winner after winning the jury vote and placing third with the public. She will now represent Finland in the Eurovision Song Contest 2016, performing in the first half of the first semi-final on 10 May 2016 at the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden.

With the risk of permaban, I really don't understand Opera Skaala :?. Actually I don't quite understand anything from UMK 2015. It was all very weird, apart from Crossroads that was just lame. When I saw the interview with PKN before they entered the stage I knew I wanted them to win. When there was nothing else worth sending, might as well send PKN just because no other country would ever do that.

Better luck (a.k.a. songs) next year.

Who chooses the songs for UMK out of all the hundreds of demos submitted? Hard to comment on whether there are enough good songs when only a fraction get selected.

One thing i've noticed is that Finland keep seeming to fail when they send non-english songs - I hope this wont push the Finnish broadcaster into having more english songs in their NF and favouring them over non-english songs.

According to UMK on Facebook, Yle will accept demos for UMK from September 1st onwards. It's the 50th time Finland competes at ESC.
