re: ESTONIA 2015 - Elina Born & Stig Rästa - Goodbye to Yesterday

Wilhelm - "Light Up Your Mind" is BY FAR THE BEST and I even didn't listen to all songs, I'm already sure!! They will probably be my fave NF entry this whole season, this is beyond MAGICAL..they were my fave last year as well, their performance from Eesti Laul still gives me goosebumps.. xlove xheart

But this year they are even more daring, haunting, interesting and mysterious..they are, as RainyWoods say: EVERYTHING!! xbow

WILHELM go to Vienna!! xyes

I listened to Wilhelm's song. Whilst the voice isn't something I enjoy, you can tell the quality of the music. Nice production. The song might not quite be everything to me, but I can tell it will be everything to a lot of people when they hear it.

There might be something else here though that i'll really, really like. I haven't listened to the songs on offer yet.

It's quite nice :D It reminds me of Laura Marling a bit... but I find myself getting a little bit bored and lost somewhere in the middle :( It has potential to grow on me though, its got a very nice sound :D

I only like our LEGEND Eteri xlove just a bit more than Wilhelm!! That says EVERYTHING!

I can't stop listening to Eteri's entry and watching her MAGNIFICENT performance in preview video for NF!! I think I never saw smth as AMAZING as that!! i can hardly imagine better performance in Vienna from her if she wins..If she manages to do better performance and outfit I'm gonna collapse..

I like "Saatuse laul" & Tiiu talu tütreke,
but the best option for Estonia this year is Goodbye to Yesterday.

Just a suggestion, set the album artist as Various Artists so that they all bunch together in iTunes. But thanks

re: ESTONIA 2015 - Elina Born & Stig Rästa - Goodbye to Yesterday

I just listened to "Goodbye To Yesterday" as you seem to all be having a moment over it. I must say, it's a nice little song. I do like it. When I read you lot describing it as melancholy, I was preparing myself for something really achingly beautiful, perhaps bleak... perhaps "Suus" 2.0. Instead I got a chirpy, soulful pop number. But "melancholy" I suppose could be a correct word to describe it as lyrically it is rather gloomy.

Not sure I like the fact it's a duet. Stig's voice suits the song much more than Elina's very plain vocals. I don't think she's a suitable match for the song or Stig's voice. I like the song quite a lot though (just listened to it 3 times in a row), so I hope her tones will grow on me. The whole thing could feel a bit safe though. I can't say it's exciting me and I want to get either excited or moved at Eurovision.

I love Kruuv - "Tiiu talu tütreke"..it has estonian folk music elements, the same ones from 2004 estonian entry - "Tii". RainyWoods listen to it..

re: ESTONIA 2015 - Elina Born & Stig Rästa - Goodbye to Yesterday

Semi 1 review:

:cool::cool::cool::cool: Elephants From Neptune -Unriddle Me: The intro is killer and this song is by far the best in this semi final. A fairly standard rock song, but it works well and there is really nothing to complain about. If that would end up going to ESC, it would certainly stand out.

:cool::cool::cool: Liis Lemsalu & Egert Milder – Hold On: The chorus is very catchy and that makes the song way way better than previous Liis Lemsalu entries (which have all been quite bad). I am not that sure about the voice of Egert. At some points I like it, at some points I don’t. This song has probably the catchiest hook in Eesti Laul this year.

:cool::cool::cool: Karl-Erik Taukar –Päev Korraga: A decent pop rock song. Similar to his previous hits. A little too safe, but gets stuck to my head easily. The chorus could be stronger. The lyrics are slightly annoying

:cool::cool: Robin Juhkental & The Big Bangers – Troubles: Not bad, but worse than his previous attempts. He gets a little bit screechy at some parts. It is a catchy song though.

:cool::cool: Maia Vahtramäe – Üle Vesihalli Taeva: I really like the background music. Maia is lovely as always and has the cool deep voice. It is not really progressing anywhere though and gets boring at some point. This song will likely get the biggest support on my FB feed though as I used to be in the same class together with Maia for like 3 years and she has a big fan base where I live :D

:cool::cool: Bluestocking – Kordumatu: I like the lyrics of the song and the voice of the singer. The melody does not stand out though. A sweet song I don’t really remember after listening.

:cool::cool: Miina – Kohvitassi lugu: She has a good voice. The song itself is a little too in the middle of the road and a little forgettable. The xylophone part is awesome.

:cool::cool: The Blurry Lane – Exceptional: The intro part is good. I would love to see more jazz influenced songs in Eesti Laul, but this is not really working that well. Very forgettable and gets a little boring half way through.

:cool: Elisa Kolk – Superlove: The piano background is good. The song itself is a little boring and has very very annoying lyrics. Very forgettable and does not stand out by anything. It may sound horrible live if the singer is bad.

 Airi Vipulkumar Kansar – Saatuse Laul: I really hate her voice. The lyrics are stupid as well. Don’t really get why this was picked by the jury. Really outdated and fortunately has no chances to win the contest.

I agree ,its the narrative and lyrics thats melancholy rather than the melody and it pulls that off very well.I think the duet makes the song, but i can understand people questioning if it suits Elina. The chemistry during the staging will make or break it i would expect plus im not sure thats the final version. It might have more impact when finished. Not sure its the winner but its a very well constructed song and does mostly what its trying to do.If Stig simply sits on a chair playing a guitar though while Elina stands at a mic it will fall flat.Chemistry in the delivery is key to it working live.
