RIK have launched their quest for the song which will represent the country in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest to be held in Oslo in May. The Cyrpiot broadcaster will once more go for a national final, like they did in 2008 and 2009 and they invite Cypriots and European citizens residing in Cyprus to submit their bids until 27th November.
An open call for songs was launched today by the Cypriot broadcaster. The country's next representative in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 will be selected during a televised national final by televote and jury vote at a 50-50 split as opposed to last year when it was the televoters alone who decided the outcome.

The contest is open to all Cypriot citizens as well as European citizens who have resided in Cyprus for the past two years at least. There are no restrictions as to the language of the songs but they cannot have been submitted to other broacasters for similar preselections.

A seven member jury will shortlist 20 songs, ten of which will finaly make it to the Cypriot final. As it is standard CyBC policy, no parts of the songs can be presented before the night of the final on TV, radio, internet or otherwise.

I dunno if she is a Cypriot citizen though and she isn't living there.

Finally another update for Cyprus

Finalists decided Dec 12th.

About seventy songs were submitted this year to the Cypriot broadcaster for the country's preselection for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. The first phase of the preselection takes place on 12th December when the 10 finalists will be selected by the RIK appointed jury.
On Saturday 12th December, a seven- member jury appointed by RIK will decide which ten out of the 70 entries received by the broadcaster will proceed to the Cypriot final.

The 2010 Cypriot final will take place on 7th February at the RIK 3 studios. The show will be broadcast live at 20.15 CET from RIK 1, RIK SAT. Like every year, live streaming will also be provided by CyBC.

Mihai Traistariu (Romania 2006) stated today that he wants to represent either Cyprus or Moldova in ESC 2010, since the foreign composers are prohibited in the Romanian NF.

Song #6 will be performed by Evagoras Evagorou (NF 2006), song #4 by Nikol Paparistodimou (JESC NF 2005) and Hovig who is currently participating in Greek X Factor will also sing one of the songs.

18-year-old Nicole Paparistodemou will be one of the ten acts to compete in the Cypriot national final for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. The singer will perform the song written by Mike Connaris called Like a woman.
Nicole Paparistodemou has been singing in public since the age of eight and she competed in the Cypriot national finals for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest twice. She also sings in a band, has made several TV appearances and has recently been accepted as a student at Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. She is very happy that she might get the chance to represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest: "Singing is my world and it would mean everything to me to win the Eurovision Song Contest. It would be such a great honour to bring this award home for the first time to Cyprus."

Composer Mike Connaris has already written the Cyprio entry in 2004 and Stronger every minute finished fifth in the final performed by Lisa Andreas. He commented on the choice of Nicole Paparistodemou: "Cyprus deserves to win Eurovision in 2010. There is such a wealth of talent in Cyprus and I want to do everything I can to see this recognised on the world stage. In Nicole, I believe I have found a singer with an extraordinary talent and if she can win the national final, she can not only reach the Eurovision final for Cyprus, but actually go on to win it".

The Cypriot national final will be held on 7th February 2010. You can find the current line-up here. Other performers for the national final have been rumoured but are awaiting an official confirmation from the broadcaster.

RIK has already announced their plans for 2011 :shock: the winner of the new talent show "Performance" will represent Cyprus in wherever ESC 2011 will be held!

Back to 2010 and a few more artists have been confirmed for the NF, most notably Hovig, an Armenian-Cypriot who is very popular after taking part in Greek X Factor, will sing "Goodbye" and could probably be installed as the favourite.

Constantinos Kontozis & Soul Throw will sing "Island Of Love" and Anthi Pashi will sing "You Gotta Go".

Cypriot news portal showbiz.com.cy reports that CyBC, the Cypriot national broadcaster has chosen Andreas Georgiou to host the 2010 Cypriot Eurovision final, scheduled to be held on the 7th of February. Andreas Georigiou is a well known Greek actor. 10 acts are expected to battle for the golden ticket to Oslo.

Andreas Georgiou will be presenting the 2010 Cypriot national final. Andreas hails from Glyfida, Greece. He won the Greek reality television show Dream Show in Greece last year. Dream Show was aired on private Greek television channel Alpha TV. Andreas has also acted in the Greek movie Stous 31 Dromous.

10 acts will be competing in order to represent Cyprus at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo next May. The Cypriot Eurovision national final will be held at the CyBC Studio in Nicosia on the 7th of February. The Cypriot 2010 Eurovision representative will be elected by a 50/50 deliberation, via televoting and jury.

The event will be broadcast live from RIK 1 with simultaneous satellite broadcast transmission in the CyBC and the Third Radio Program. It will also broadcast from the site of the CyBC official website .
