Im not gonna deny that I feel unconfortable with this Conchita character (I dont like drag acts, even if Im gay) because I find it as a nonsense, but is only my opinion and everyone have their own. Im here to give my opinion of Conchita's song and I gave it, without looking at the character because it doesn't matter for me like when I didn't cared of Silvia Nótt, Verka or Rodolfo, with the difference that the austrian SONG is not a joke. I hope you understand.

I wouldn't say that a statement for tolerance for different life concepts is a mockery. And that's what the beard is all about. Listen to what he says in most of his interviews.

And what is most interesting is, that the hatred is based on a very simple fact: challenging what we consider to be "typical male" or "female". Some people for instance have no problem at all to listen to or buy records from hateful rappers as Bushido in Germany who openly calls for murder of specific people like specific politicians or to bash gay people. But when it comes to a man who wears a beard AND a dress - they find it shocking.
Of course what I just said is not pointing at you, but I'm reading a lot of comentaries at the moment and that's what puzzeled me recently.

Well people should realise it's fine to dislike the song, but it's when people in this thread refer to Conchita/Tom as 'it'. That just goes too far and is plain offensive.

Not at all. I love Ralph Siegel (go see the Belgian thread). I love Azerbaijan (this year, last year, the year before...). I love Conchita AND her song. Can't say much about this year Russia (still waiting for the song...). And I love Dima Bilan (especially when he's half-naked ).

PS : I have mixed feelings about "Believe", though. Liked it first, than got bored, than been fuming that it won so easily. So

I am afraid that most people will not even notice the song. Austria 2014 will just be remembered as "the bearded lady". I think the visual impressions for most viewers will far surpass the hearing impression...

No, "Rise Like A Phoenix" is timeless grandeur. As much as I love Valentina, her song is very old fashioned.
