Today the Cypriot Broadcasting Corporation (RIK) announced that Silia Kapsis will represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024, scheduled to take place in May in Sweden, with the song “Liar.” Specifically, the song is a creation of Dimitris Kontopoulos with lyrics by the Dutch lyricist Elke Tiel.

Regardless, the song “Liar” is not unfamiliar within the Eurovision community, as it was initially considered for the Russian national selection in Eurovision 2022. Yet, Russia faced disqualification by the EBU due to the invasion of Ukraine.

Following this, the composition underwent alterations and was presented in Greece’s national selection for the Eurovision 2023 contest, performed by Melissa Mantzoukis. The song came remarkably close to being chosen by ERT, as it secured the top spot according to a public committee consisting of 70 selected individuals.

However, this decision was not shared by the artistic committee of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation, leading to a dispute that reached the courts, with the case currently unresolved.

A snippet of the track “Liar” with Melissa Mantzoukis’s rendition has circulated on social media. It’s important to note that the version Silia Kapsis will use to represent Cyprus in Eurovision 2024 is considered eligible for competition, given that it hasn’t been officially released for commercial purposes.
