The JESC selection process isn’t the only one underway this month in Germany, this week the broadcaster NDR began its search for its next representative for the big Contest next May!

This year’s national selection will be called “Eurovision Song Contest – Das deutsche Finale 2024” and will air on February 16th. An online submission form has launched on eurovision.de and will be accepting application for bands and artists until October 5th.

The rules don’t indicate that applicants must be German or live in Germany, but they do note that applicants are not allowed to participate in other countries’ selections at the same time. Also, applicants aren’t required to have an original song prepared; they can instead submit a cover song to showcase their vocal talents. Further, a composer is not allowed to submit a song without an artist attached. These rules together could suggest that NDR is primarily focused on finding a vocally talented artist/band who can impress on the big stage — perhaps the broadcaster already has a song in mind to match with the right artist?

In any event, the broadcaster will be seeking applicants who can generate buzz and excitement among the German public. One element of the application process that carries over from last year is that artists are encouraged to showcase their talents on TikTok, using the hashtag #EurovisionGermany2024. It’s likely that the broadcaster will be looking closely at the most-liked and shared videos, though the rules note TikTokers must also apply using the online form to be considered.

Our next big update on the national final will likely come after New Year’s, so in the meantime, best of luck to all the applications — and stay tuned for an exciting updated on Germany’s JESC selection!
