Heats are being rounded up in Sweden as their prestigious Melodifestivalen reveals the final 7 acts competing for the honour of representing Sweden in Turin. Several of the potential contenders were saved for this heat, let’s see if anyone can dethrone the current expected winners (Cornelia Jakobs and Anders Bagge) as we navigate through another night of Oscar Zia and demon muppets.

Tonight saw the following Line-up compete:

  1. Anna Bergendahl – “Higher Power”
  2. Lillasyster – “Till our days are over”
  3. Malin Christin“Synd om mig”
  4. Tenori – “La stella”
  5. Medina – “In i dimman”
  6. Angelino“The end”
  7. Klara Hammarström – “Run to the hills”

Lillasyster and Sami (from Medina) return from last year’s Mello for a second try, with Klara Hammarström scoring a Melfest hattrick. 2010 Laureate Anna Bergendahl returns for a fourth try, while Wiktoria’s sister Malin Christin makes her debut as a solo artist.

After the 7 songs were performed, fans had a short time window to cast their votes via the app or televote. After that, the first part of the results came in.

Melodifestivalen’s vote works a bit differently to what we’re normally used to. Instead of eliminating the two songs with the fewest votes, they now announce the current leader, who immediately qualifies for the finale. The other finalist, as well as two semifinalists are chosen by the second vote.

Klara Hammarström was announced as the winner of the initial vote and got to advance to the finale. The vote then reopened for the remaining six acts.

During this time period, fans were treated to an Italian language medley performed by Melfest veterans: Nano, Jessica Andersson, Nanne Grönvall and Oscar Zia sang Italianized version of their previous Melfest entries.

After this, the votes came in. While it seemed that Anna Bergendahl would effortlessly qualify after leading the official tally, she was eventually overtaken by Medina’s arabic sea shanty, making hip hop duo the final direct finalist of the season. Anna Bergendahl and schlagermetal group Lillasyster qualify for the semifinal, where they’ll fight for a spot in the final next week.

DtF: Klara, Medina
AC: Anna, Lillasyster
Out: Angelino, Tenori, Malin
