The Dutch went for a artistic approach of their song. Jeangu is flanked by two backing vocalists (inlucing his twin brother Xillian), and a genderfluid dancer who engages into expressive krumping moves. The camera is focused on the Surinamese soul singer, and his two backing acts, creating a touching, uplifting vibe. The overall act is dynamic and attention-grabbing.
The colour palette shifts from a dark blue-ish grey into an explosion of various colours. Jeangu, dressed in a statement of queerness (Azure jacket, with a leather harness underneath) looks very confident and sounds good throughout.
Before today, many thought The Netherlands were merely a cipher in this large, large contest. Today they’ve shown that they will stand out. They’re taking a huge risk by being unapolagetically inclusive. Only time will tell whether it shall pay off.
