We have received word that the city of Malmö has submitted a bid to host the Eurovision Song Contest for a third time, making it the fourth city to have submitted a bid to SVT.

The Malmö Arena is the second largest indoor arena in Sweden and currently hosts a number of events such as the Malmö Redhawks ice hockey games, Men’s Handball Championships, and has been a tour stop for a number of artists like Britney Spears, Bob Dylan, Lady Gaga, and more. The arena has a capacity of up to 15,000 audience members and is surrounded by accessible transportation, either by bus, train, or the nearby airports.

Eurovision fans will remember the arena hosting the 2013 contest, beating out the Friends Arena in Stockholm and the Scandinavium in Gothenburg. Ironically, all three of these venues are now up against each other once more to host. The city also hosted the 1992 contest in the Malmö Isstadion, a fellow ice hockey arena that was the former home of the Redhawks.

The full list of confirmed host bids are as follows:

  • Gothenburg
  • Malmö
  • Örnsköldsvik
  • Stockholm
