Just a few thoughts about what seems to work and not work, in the light of this year’s results:

- If your staging expresses something scary, vulgar or similar, you need to be the one to perform it most explicitly. Otherwise, people will pick something more extreme. Example: UK (2024), Germany (2023).

- Unless your song is crazy, there needs to be a strong and experienced singer. Otherwise, you won't make a strong enough impression. Example: Denmark (2024), Denmark (2023), Denmark (2022).

- Songs that draw on folklore must be happy or funny. Otherwise people can't understand it. Examples: Norway (2024), Spain (2023).

- Simple stage shows must be full of passion and charisma. Otherwise, dynamic, confusing staging is better. Example: Belgium (2024)

- Mid-tempo songs should be extremely melodic. Otherwise people will forget them. Example: Australia (2024)

Don't forget the pendulum effect where after one or two slow and serious, the opposite is now fresh and attractive. And vice versa and so on.

Juries follow the people on delay. As if suddenly the televote indicate it's Ok to sing in a national language or whatever, a few years later the juries will begin to think so too. Although accepting something European will take a longer time as they see their duty to stamp that out.

But mostly these days your best bet would be at war.
