Can’t wait till Saturday to hear all the songs though? 1-minute snippets will be uploaded on the Melfest App every Thursday to give you a chance to hear the songs coming up that weekend. Furthermore, on Fridays, 30 seconds of each rehearsal will be published. As always, the songs which go directly to the final will not be published until the final heat.

The Competitions

As we’ve already discussed here, the style of the competitions has changed. Out is the Andra Chansen/Second-Chance/Semi-final and in is 5 heats. 2 songs will qualify direkt til final in each heat, and the 3rd and 4th placed acts will be put into a short recap at the end of the 5th heat for the people to vote once more. It is very similar to the old second chance round but without anyone having to compete once more. How this will be presented on the night is still rather unknown so we shall see in Karlstad.

The Host

Famous Swede Carina Berg is this years Melodifestivalen host. She is the first woman to host alone since Petra Mede in 2009. She is a famed radio and tv presenter, presenting shows like Idol, the Voice and much more across Sweden. She also leads Sweden Childrens Cancer Gala each year. Melfest’s project manager is proud to have such a talented presenter as part of the team who can lead the party across Sweden.

The Stage

This year’s Melfest stage has been designed to offer variety while looking elegant. Scenographer Viktor Brattstrom and lighting design manager Fredrik Stromby produced this huge stage for this year’s circus. LED lighting and screens make up the majority of the stage production with a record number of pixels on the stage. There is a further smaller stage in the audience to allow the hosts to get amongst the crowd.

The biggest aim when it came to this year’s stage was that it should fit in smaller areas. They have worked well with each department of design to allow stage design to work well with the acts, the costumes, and everything else Mello.

The intervals

We only have information on one interval act right now. A-Teens are to reunite live on stage this Saturday to celebrate their 25th anniversary. This will be the first time in 18 years that the group will be on stage together, they will perform a melody of their songs and famous ABBA songs also.

That is everything you need to know so far for this years Melodifestivalen circus! All that we have to wait for now is the all-important songs coming tomorrow! We will keep you updated constantly over the coming weeks on everything about Melfest and who will represent Sweden, at home, in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
