According to information from escNorge, Stig Karlsen announced at the recent OGAE Norway meeting that the final of Melodi Grand Prix will take place on February 3rd, 2024.

This year’s show will follow the 3 semi-final format, with 6 competing entries per semi-final – meaning that 18 entries will be in contention this year. This means there will be 3 less entries in the competition compared to last year, where 21 entries competed across 3 semi-finals. It is suspected that the semi-finals will begin on January 13th.

The Norwegian HoD has been hard at work recruiting artists and songwriters for the upcoming national selection, creating songwriting camps through The Woods Norway, Arctic Rights and the Fjord Music Group production studios. Each studio has had great success with MGP in recent years, with last year’s song “Queen of Kings” being written at the 2022 music camp hosted by Fjord Music Group.

According to social media we know a few faces who have appeared at these past songwriting camps, such as Hannah Dorothy who helped write Farida’s 2022 MGP entry “Dangerous”, MGP 2022 participants Vilde and Oda Gondrosen, and 2022 participant on The Voice Norge Emilie Grimstad. Other notable appearances include Eurovision 2017 artist and MGP songwriter JOWST, 2021 participant and songwriting camp organized Emmy, MGP 2019 artist Chris Medina, and “Queen of Kings” co-writers J Stanley and Linda O Dale.

NRK is currently in the process of determining which artists will compete in the national selection, with successful acts being contacted by the broadcaster. The formal announcement of the competing artists and song titles is scheduled to be broadcast by NRK on January 5th.

Last year’s winner of MGP Alessandra finished in 5th place in Liverpool, scoring a total of 268 points in the final. It was the second highest placement for the country in the last 10 years, coming just short of Margaret Berger’s 4th place finish in Malmo with “I Feed You my Love”.
