“Shum” is the Ukrainian word for “Noise” and that’s exactly what Go_A made on the stage. Let’s report on their rehearsal below.

Country: Ukraine (#UKR)
Act: Go_A
Song: “Shum”
Semifinal: First (18/05/2021)
Position in Running Order: 15/16

Go_A’s rehearsal revealed a very clear and distinct artistic vision. The members of the Ukrainian band start in a forest of white trees, flanked by two dancers. These dancers are carrying two charkams (Indian blade-discs) in the style of “Tron”, waving them around as like halo’s. We notice a loads of white and bright light against a dark background.

Katryna is the real stand out of the performance however, the only person the stage not wearing white. She’s wearing a simple black dress with a stylized neon-green boa. She looks absolutely stunning and then proceeds to sell the entire song with her personality. Katryna nails every note on both rehearsals and establishes intense eye-contact with the viewer.

Ukraine are taking a risk by focusing this much on their lead vocalist, but Katryna’s magnetic appeal is simply undeniable. She sucks you into the performance and when it discharges into that strong uptempo finish (the backdrop shows several CGI figures running towards the viewer as this happens) you’re already drinking the Kool-aid. Ukraine have proven, without any shadow  of a doubt that they understand what makes Eurovision tick.
