saule supernova 2023

Just yesterday, Latvijas Televīzija (LTV) revealed its plans for choosing its song for Eurovision 2023 with a new edition of Supernova. And today, we learn that one participant has been disqualified for violating the rules.

15 songs were originally going to take part in the Latvian national final, but one will be missing: “Finally Happy” by Saule. The latter has been disqualified because his song was actually released in 2021, which is against Supernova’s rules.

As Latvian Television’s statement says, Saule publicly performed his entry “Finally Happy” back in December 2021, which is not in compliance with the national final’s rules which forbid all entries released or publicly performed before 1 September 2022 to compete.

14 songs still in the mix

Taking into account this disqualification, we will still see the 14 other artists competing to represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool in May.

Supernova 2023 will he held on 4 February (Semi-Final) and 11 February (Grand Final). The show will be hosted by Ketija Šēnberga and Lauris Reiniks and the results will consist in 50% jury and 50% televote (call or SMS).

Here is the full list of the participants for Supernova 2023:

  • 24. Avēnija – “You Said”
  • Adriana Miglāne – “Like I Wanna”
  • Alise Haijima – “Tricky”
  • Artūrs Hatti – “Love Vibes”
  • Avéi – “Let Me Go”
  • Inspo – “Sway”
  • Justs – “Stranger”
  • Katrine Miller – “Beaten Down”
  • Luīze – “You To Hold Me”
  • Markus Riva – “Forever”
  • Patrisha – “Hush”
  • Raum – “Fake Love”
  • Sudden Lights – “Aijā”
  • Toms Kalderauskis – “When It All Falls”

Last year, Citi Zëni represented Latvia in Turin and finished 14th in the first semi-final with 55 points. Maybe Latvia will break the curse of non-qualification this year.
