Slovenian EMA is kicking off tonight, so we are bringing you the last, but certainly not the least, interview and it is with Kataya and Duncan Kamakana, who will perform tomorrow night.
They are in a quite international team. Kataya is from Slovenia, Duncan is from the USA and they have a guy from Serbia doing the screen animations.

This interview is a bit different than the previous ones as we did a video interview with Kataya and Duncan sent us his answers all the way from Hawaii.
Here is what he had to say.

How did you two meet and why did you decide to apply for EMA 2017?

I was approached earlier this year by producer Megi Milošević who was putting a team together for an EMA submission.  This was when I was first introduced to Kataya’s work, and I’ve been blown away with her talent ever since.

Since you live in the States, did that have a big influence to your music?

Even within the United States of America music changes drastically from region to region.  Being from Hawaii specifically my music is influenced by the traditional songs of Hawaii, but it really is American Blues, Soul, Folk, and Rock music, which are less prevalent in the islands, that influence my music the most.

Can you tell us something about your song?

The song we have is a long distance love ballad about two lovers forced to be apart because of circumstances.  It illuminates the struggles of maintaining a relationship through a phone line.

This EMA will feature a lot of popular performers. Have you been looking up about them? Who do you consider your biggest competitor?

I have heard that this years selection of Slovenian performers in EMA 2017 is really strong. I believe that music should connect. This kind of events are perfect to share what every performer had created and see other contestants more as fellow artists than competitors.

What is your favorite Eurovision song?

Being from the United States, and Hawaii specifically, wetend to be a little isolated. While I wasn’t as familiar with the show before beginning of this project it has only made it a more exciting experience for me as I learn more about the competition as we move forward.
The reaction alone when I tell people who are already familiar with the competition what I’ve been working have made this very exciting times for me.
I have checked last years winner Jamala. She has a very powerful and emotional song.

And would be so kind and reveal to our readers something interesting about yourself?

When I’m not playing music I love to spend my time playing sports and reading crime novels.

Here you can check out Kataya’s answers.
