San Marino’s ‘revolutionary project’, a collaboration with the London-based talent company 1 in 360, has certainly captured the imagination of Eurovision fans across the continent and beyond. With San Marino becoming somewhat of a cult hero nation in the contest and the perennial underdog, the new global approach to selecting their entry is a bold statement from the tiny republic. Can they find their best result through the platform though? We’re a lot closer to finding out!

From today, the 1 in 360 website has begun to update its candidates section to showcase the talent that have so far applied for the competition, and there are already a surprising amount of familiar names to Eurovision fans in the mix.

Dado Topic (Croatia 2007) and Maria Ólafsdottír (Iceland 2015) have both thrown their hat into the ring for San Marino, alongside other notable names to fans such as Egor Luts (Moldova 2015 selection), Tasha Odi (Belarus 2015 selection) and Syuzanna Melqonyan (Depi Evratesil 2017 participant). Jill Svensson (a participant in Sweden’s version of Got Talent back in 2010) may also be a familiar name to some.

The international aspect of the competition is certainly evident in the competition, with entries coming from as far afield as Iran, Canada, Haiti, the United States, the Philippines, Namibia, Guatemala, South Africa, Kenya and China among others!

This would not be the first time that San Marino looked for international inspiration for their entry. Only Miodio (2008), Anita Simoncini (2015) and Valentina Monetta were Sanmarinese; Senhit (2011) and Michele Perniola (2015) were from neighbouring Italy, Serhat (2016) is Turkish and Jimmie Wilson (2017) is from the United States.
